Clevo P955ET1 ac adapter

Hi !

I see that p955et1 has 150W stock ac adapter.

This laptop has i7-8750h+quadro p3200 and i'm afraid that might not be enough while running intensive tasks on it and then experiencing power limit throttling.

So do you know if are there any ac adapter compatible with this notebook but with more wattage like 180W or 200W or 230W ?

If yes, what models ?

 

75w + 45w = 120w leaving 30w for the rest so 150w should be fine. The others will plug in if they are 5.5x2.5mm barrel type connectors with 19v output.

 

I don't know if it works that way because i remember on this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/tongfang-gk5cn5z-and-tongfang-gk5cn6z.815943/) that it only had 150w ac adapter and a lot of people experienced power limit throttling due to 8750h being very power demanding under heavy load.

After the release of a new 180w ac adapter, problem was solved.

Gtx 1060 is 80W tgp so quite similar to p3200 (78W actually according to nvidia https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/.../quadro-mobile-line-card-n18-11x8.5-r4-hr.pdf).

And that's why i asked for a more powerful psu to avoid this kind of problem.

Any examples ? i mean p751tm 230w psu is also compatible with p955et1 ?
Or even better could you please mention any type model compatible with p955et1 with at least 180W ?

 

The TM is not a barrel type connector which is why I was specific. Put what I did say into ebay and take a look and they will work there are loads of 180W bricks from the likes of delta and some of the 210W+ ones that will fit.

Different bricks and machines are going to be different after all.

 

So for instance do you confirm that both these two ac-adapters will work without any problem on p955et1 ?

If yes, will the notebook be able to draw (in case of need) more than 150W using a more powerful psu than the stock one or clevo sets some kind of limit so regardless of the psu used, maximum power draw will always be stock value of 150W unless i'm able to change some parameters into bios (and maybe to this a custom unlocked bios like prema or obsidian-pc is required for the purpose) ?

 

Those will work, as work stations there are no such power tweaks, they are certified to run at stock on professional applications.

I connect new 200w psu to p955et1 and than if i'm running heavy cfd simulations or whatever tasks that draw more than 150W, even if now i have an adequate psu (200W) i may even experience bsod because p955et1 was anyway built to ensure stability at max 150W ?

 

Well the power supply itself can draw more than 150W but the machine is designed to run at the specified TDP level and be capable of doing that during professional tasks. It's not designed to be played with and tweaked but to get serious work done.

 

So you're basically saying that buying a more powerful psu compatible with p955et1 may be useless because as soon as laptop requires more than 150W we just enter "unknown territory" ?

 

The P3200 has a lower power target than the 1060 for the first part and the system will manage the TDP to stay stable during intensive loads.

That's how it's done properly, however Tongfang decide to "manage" their power consumption is of little consequence.

 

So should i go for p955et1, do you think buying a more powerful psu is a wise choice to avoid any power limit problem at least on the ac adapter side ?

 

If you need a slim machine with a the driver enhancements of a quadro it's a great package and I would not worry about the PSU.

 

P955ET1 is just one option i'm currently considering to replace my old laptop.

Resellers tend to keep away from the "what notebook should I buy?" section, it used to be banned, it's not technically now but I'd rather not muddy the waters on that.

I am not a professional app user myself, I generally recommend for specs for people to ask users on the forums of their CAD programs which chips tend to perform best. Then bring back that knowledge with any clarification questions.
