Hello all,
I'm new around these parts. I have some questions about the Clevo P960RD 16.1" w/ RTX 2060 graphics (Also known as the Sager NP8966)
Apologies in advance if the Owner's Lounge for this clevo model already answers these questions. There's a lot of pages in that thread and I may have missed something in there.
Anyways, here are my questions:
1. Does it have switchable graphics (aka MUX switch), or does it use Nvidia Optimus?
2. Can the GPU be undervolted and/or change the power limit (via MSI afterburner for example)?
3. Does this laptop allow a user-defined fan curve? Back when I had a Sager NP9175, the control panel software only allowed me to set a static fan speed, no curve option.
4. Does the "quiet mode" fan profile also clock down the CPU/GPU or does it strictly lower fan RPM? (I understand that higher temps may cause them to clock down, but I'm wondering if this profile deliberately clock them down?)
5. Last question. Can the CPU and/or GPU be undervolted via the BIOS or is this only achievable post-OS boot?
Thank you to anyone in advance for answering a question or two.

1. Just Optimus.
2. Yes in the way that RTX series let you by adjusting the clock curve.
3. Not a custom curve.
4. Yes power will change with the different profiles.
5. I know of no system that allows GPU tweaking including desktops in the BIOS screen, but no, adjustments are made using XTU.Ghoul Magnet likes this. -
But dang, the Optimus thing is a deal breaker. I guess there's no way to disable it?
I run a small podcast and livestream it, so I was hoping to use the GPU only for screen capture. But from my understanding, that will not work because the the CPU graphics are used in a desktop environment. Unless I am mistaken? If there is a way to record my screen with the Nvidia GPU, I'll probably order one. -
The only way I can think of working around the Optimus issue is to shut the lid and use only external outputs (as they're all connected to the Nvidia GPU). I haven't personally tested this though.Ghoul Magnet likes this. -
Thanks for the help guys!
I have 1 final question, I can't seem to find the answer anywhere...
Is the RTX 2060 Clevo uses the 90W or 80W version? -

Optimus mode is the closest you will get to both being on.Ghoul Magnet likes this. -
My 2060 @ stock settings in BFV were avg. 1500mhz | 1.05V | max 81C with OC test I got avg.1600mhz | 0.8V | max 72C.
EZ!
If you want more control options you can buy Obsidian fan control.Ghoul Magnet likes this. -
Thanks everyone for your help! I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Ordered the RTX 2060 version (since 2070 MQ is not worth the extra $$).
I purchased via @GenTechPC as they're currently running the best deals.

Once I have it, I'll post benchmark results and thermals in the owner's lounge.
