Does anyone know if there are any Clevo resellers anywhere at all in south east asia? Ive checked out the Clevo guide and google numerous times but havent been able to come up with anything.

There is a clevo reseller in the guide listed as singapore but they dont sell any of the models that most people here are interested in.

Failing that anyone know of a Taiwan or Japan based reseller that has any english language website?

    Thanks for readin

There are a few Clevo vendors in south east Asia... I just didnt note them back before I came up with the Clevo Guide.

I just need to find them again.

That and my language skills only gives me up to a few asian languages, including intermediate Vietnamese. :)

Really? It would be great if anyones got any info about that. Ive searched high and low but havent managed to find a thing.

I thought that in one of the big tech malls in kuala lumpur there would at least be a sniff of a clevo SOMEWHERE but it seemed that no one had ever heard of them on my last trip, and I really asked around.

In these markets gamers build their own rigs. The ones that want a gaming laptop (ie rich enough) need to see a big brand on it (Apple, Acer etc). So Clevo's would have a hard time chasing customers. High performance - reasonable price - no designer label, does not fit either market.

You can order from Sager or Kobalt and they will happily deliver to those places. Getting a local language keyboard is another matter... As is warranty...

I understand what youre saying but moving an expensive laptops through customs in some of the above countries is not a thought I relish.

Kobalt are obviously using UK prices and Sager dont seem to accept non US credit cards, buying a laptop without the insurance a credit card offers is not something id want to do either except as a last resort.

Killernotebooks do accept normal international credit cards so theyd probably be the best bet. The customs issue though is a real problem.

Customs definitely is the biggest hindrance for international customers.

I paid 15% tax when I ordered my m15x from the UK site, not to mention the shipping charges :(

I ordered my laptop from Alienware's UK site ( which handles international orders ) The company they use to ship their products is DHL.

DHL's service is fast and efficient though, I received my laptop 2 days after it was shipped out.

But that 15% sales tax... :( Oh and shipping was about 200 Euros.. :(

I recommend distinguishing between legitimate indirect taxes and bribes. Legitimate ones are to be expected anywhere, not just in the Philippines. For example, if you import anything from Asia into the UK you will have to pay 17.5% too - it's just a fact of life wherever you are (except lucky US).

As to bribes, then these are no way as bad as some doommonger would have you believe, but if you are one of the unlucky ones, this can be resolved by either a) knowing your facts and law (5 minutes on Google) b) getting DHL (or whoever) to act as your broker (small fee).

I did not bribe anyone from customs :)

If I remember it right, it was 12% international sales tax. The remaining 3% was comprised of miscellaneous DHL charges ( storage and handling etc )

My apologies - 'bribe' was too narrow a word. I'm sure you don't engage in that. I should have said 'corruption' which would include threatening not to release goods until 150% (or some other invented rate) 'duty' is paid (negotiable to "only" 40% cash in hand).

I had my NP8660 shipped to Singapore from the States. Only tax I paid was the standard 7% sales tax applied to everything else in Singapore, I think. Shipping was about 200USD or so.

If it fails, well... getting it repaired may be a *****. But I guess I'll take that chance first, eh? The HDD temps are a little bit worrying, since so many people seem to have 30-degrees-and-under HDDs, but mine is almost always in excess of 50.

    No offense taken Varadero :)

Got to agree with you MrFong, sending the unit for repairs is the worst case scenario for international customers since we have to pay for shipping both ways.

Here's hoping everything goes well with your np8660 :)

Maybe a cooler would help? I use the Belkin cooler for my laptop and it does help with temps :)

    http://www.sgcubehubs.com/home

Note, I emailed Sager and checked if Cube was a legitimate Sager resellers, which they claim they are, and was told otherwise. I think that might be why Gophn didn't include them in the Clevo Guide.

I know there were a couple of Singaporeans interested in buying it, but I don't know if they made the purchase.

Feel free to check with Cube though.

Aside from that, Dell's probably the best bet if you want to get something powerful locally.

Wow thanks for the Link dtwn83 - sure as hell couldnt find them on google, that really helps alot - except for the fact that you mention Sager said they were not an authorised retailer of course. Still if they have a physical shop in sg it should be ok to check them out before buying.

What exactly did Sager tell you in the email? do you still have it?

Perhaps they simply buy them straight of sager retail with a markup?

Wow didn't know about this :) Thanks for that link.

The question is do they ship to other South East Asian countries? I have some friends who may be interested in ordering from them if they do :)

    Sager reply
And yea, I know Brian has terrible English.

    That's my guess.

No clue, can't tell from website, you could give it a shot though.

I did recommend the Singaporean users check out the place in person if they considered buying it from Cube. Don't know if they did.
