Hey all, I was hoping someone could help me with this somewhat older gen. laptop; my problem is powering up the laptop, which at first i believed was the battery getting old, so I replaced the battery and i thought it was working fine until it seemed like it refused to charge the battery after a few hours of using it with the new battery.
The charge that came with the new battery soon died out as well and now I could not charge the new or probably fine old battery. My last measure was to buy a new AC adapter because it had always made a strange noise ( I got this whole laptop used). I just got my new AC adapter and it doesn't cause any LED lights to come up so im assuming nothing is charging and nothing works.
This is where I am right now and Im guessing the only other thing it can be is a burnt DC jack/ motherboard and Im almost certain the motherboard is fine because a half charged new battery was able to make the laptop work, i just cudnt charge it through my own DC jack... Can someone please give me some advise, will giving this to circuit city/best buy be a good idea or waste of time? Thanks

Welcome to the NBR forums.
Sorry to hear about your issue.
The DC jack/port is the most likely port to malfunction in notebooks, since they are used the most... even more than USB ports for the most part.
Depending on where you live there are a number of Clevo service centers that can fix the issue for you.
DO NOT bring it to "Dumb Squad" or "Fire Dummies"... they will probably not know anything about Clevo notebooks, since they are extremely rare and custom to Clevo high-end models. -
Oh wow Gophn, I didn't realize u actually have a very similar model lol... nice to know they're not really obsolete yet =D... I actually got it looked at by a warranty repair center near by and they told me it's actually the power supply circuit that went bad and the parts only cost $15 !!! But labor was an arm and leg lol...
It has happened again though and I believe my old AC adapter is to blame, it seems to get very very HOT and makes sutle eletric noises, it might be shorting out my power circuit, Im just happy it hasnt hit my motherboard yet... Im ordering an new compatible one and hopefully that will work... THe other AC adpater i got doesnt actually work with this laptop after testing it when it was fixed, RATS =(
Hope that anyone who ever has this same problem with this laptop finds this thread helpful! -
gryfyn,
Is the green led coming on the power brick?
If you have a voltmeter, test the voltages coming out of the 4 pins in the power brick. If you are getting voltage out, than that means the power brick should be working.
If it is the power jack on the motherboard, it can be replaced easily, but you would need to take the entire system apart to get the motherboard out.
WHat could have also happened is that the charging circuit on the laptop stopped working. If that is the case than you would need a new motherboard.
What you should also do is unscrew the battery. Plug the ac power in, and use the voltmeter to see if any voltage is coming out of the battery port. If there is no voltage coming out, (only test if the board is actually getting power), than you would be able to know if its the charging circuit or not.
Good luck man,
Gophn and I have the AMD version, so if you need help taking it apart, let us know I have taken my system apart dozens of times.
