Hi all. im really interested in getting one of these. i need advice for configurations, mainly regarding in heat and performance. does this thing still throttle and does it regardless of cpu used? im thinking of going for the standard i5-3210m, i5-3360m, i7-3520m or i7 3632qm (120w may be given depending on website i buy from). im trying to keep it on 35w to help keep the machine as cool without much heat suffering and throttling.
Also how loud is the machine? my current machine is e320. and its not that noisey when gaming. i like quite quiet machines when its loaded. im using an i5/6630m combo in a 13.3 inch frame and i no its not a 650m in an 11.6 frame but my laptop is around 40db at load. and thats acceptable. i read at notbook check that it was around 46db gaming but went to around 51 at full stress test and they was using the 45w 3610qm so im hoping my cpu choice will lessen all of this.
And lastly is the GPU upgradeable like 7 series. and should i wait because they may have a msata version....or even 13.3 version which was meant to surface?
Thanks for any replies in regards to the cpu you own and the temps you get when load is exactly perfect. Lets discard price and think of performance and heat. but the price difference between the 3210m and the 3360m/3632qm is £72-£84 but the jump in speed is noticeable. ino the 3610qm cant get maximum use so would they still be the problem in just dual cores or low powered quads. im thinking of biting the bullet.
ive also polled the cpu choice for a 3 weeks.

See HTWingNut's comparisons... the 3612QM didn't make the machine any cooler, so NO DOUBT the 3632QM won't either... just get the 3630QM, you dont lose any speed and you save money versus the 3632QM also you get faster speed +it's a quadcore, no need to get a dualcore these days..
The GPU is NOT upgradeable -
Yes, quad core, you won't regret it. Yes all CPU's will not boost with dedicated GPU enabled, but ThrottleStop works around all that. Although power and temps are considerably higher when doing so. I say only run ThrottleStop if/when you absolutely need to. For quad core, so far I don't see the need. It runs all games great at stock speeds. Only time you might want to is if you end up encoding video.
The machine is actually quite quiet considering it doesn't kick in the fan until after 65C. -
ah ok ill have to rethin. the prices was quite good considering for the 3630qm compared to the ones i mentioned. so basically 35w vs 45w is only for more battery life and technically heat should be less but cos of the size of the machine, heat output is negligible?
also this is a pet hate. how is the touchpad buttons noise when pressed? is it soft and not noisey like thinkpads/hp elitebooks. or is it dead loud and clicky like that of asus? i like to do a lot and the click noise grates on my partner and causes problems i dont want head aches about.
Thanks -
'bout mouse
with left button (at least on mine)
noisy if u press the right side of the button, smooth if u press the left one.
Same thing (Vice Versa) with the righ button - noisy on left smooth on right. -

the more i think about this laptop the more i want it. ive had the x120e and used to the form factor so im used to the size even for gaming. (just about did it on the e350/6310m lol...just mildly) and my Gf has a lenovo s205 which is the same size form facter as the w110er and im intriuged to finish what i wanted with form factor in 11.6 in terms of performance....just really wish these machines had a trackpad because the mouse buttons are softer.
ive found some uk suppliers. but i rounded it down to two. but now i found the one of two because one has gloss screen and one has matte. i do like gloss to a degree because the picture/colours appear more whole sharper and brighter but hate glare. with matte. colours are more dull and not as nice but matte it is for me.
