On my previous notebook/netbook I could boot from the SD card. I keep a copy of GParted on an SD card for wiping USB drives when they come back off loan.

Is there any way to do this on this Clevo model?

That should be possible, although I've never tried it myself. I don't think there is a BIOS option to change to that boot method, but you should be able to hit the esc. button upon startup to get to a special boot menu. Most computers will have that ability, so try that out.

I could boot my p150HM using this setup:

Micro SD -> USB Card Reader -> Adaptec HUB -> P150HM

The BIOS will see it and when it does, you can either bump it up so it loads first, or you can go to the boot menu.

I can boot proprietary OS doing this. Should work with anything.

I don't believe the integrated card reader allows you to boot from it, though as was pointed out an external USB reader should. Just hit the boot key combo at the bios. It should be f7 for boot options.

Correct. The internal card reader won't.

Thanks for the tips. I tried the boot menu and changing the boot order but hadn't thought of a USB card reader. To be honest the only reason I use a card and not a USB drive is because I had an old 1GB drive left over from my Palm T3 PDA that is pretty much useless for anything else.

I hope to get the new Ubuntu 11.10 working soon and then I can just run GParted from there. Although I still wish it had native support for Optimus. When I installed 11.04 I was stuck with the old Gnome interface because it claimed no 3D acceleration available needed for the new Unity interface which is weird because my first generation 1.6GHz Atom netbook runs it fine.
