    Hello,

I am trying to decide which processor/memory to buy for this barebones laptop.

If I buy the 2720qm processor, can I then use DDR3 1600? As in, will the mainboard support this speed or is it capped at 1333?

If the mainboard will only accept 1333, then I'll just buy the 2630qm.

    Thanks much!

2720qm supports 1600 Mhz RAM, 2630 does not. However, you should not notice the difference in RAM speeds in most applications.

More details on each processor can be found here:

I'm concerned that the motherboard in the clevo W150HRQ doesn't support ddr3 1600. I'm looking for a verification on that.

yes I think the motherboard may not support 1600 Mhz RAM.. None of the resellers are offering it for the 5165...

try to pm one of the resellers - paladin44/justin/babyhemi...

1600Mhz RAM is an option on Mythlogic laptops based on the clevo W150HRQ, so it should support it.

I believe that 1600 Mhz only applies for 2x2 sticks, not 2x4 sticks

So if I bought 2x4 sticks of ddr3 1600 cas 11, would it downgrade to 1333 cas 9?

    Just an update:

I installed 8gb patriot signature series DDR3 1600 cas 11, and the full 8gb is running at that configuration.. this is withthe 2720qm processor...

so the mobo is letting 8gb (2x4) sticks run at 800 each for a total of 1600mhz data rate!

There is a benefit for applications that use the integrated GPU. Check out this review of Kingston's "Plug and Play" DDR3 1866 RAM, which is designed for Sandy Bridge notebooks.
