    Hi,
I'm going to buy a powerful laptop for work, I chose: CLEVO W230SS 13" IPS z NVIDIA GTX 860M. But after previous experiences with NVIDIA OPTIMUS and Linux I prefer to consult if someone has already try this. If somebody managed to run on Ubuntu 14.04 or other Linux with NVIDIA GTX 860M OPTIMUS ? Because on laptops toshiba and selected hp Optimus dont work even with latest versions.

Optimus has not changed significantly so if you had problems you likely still would.

There is a small project going to work out the kinks and get Optimus working under a Linux environment, but I haven't heard much feedback on it.

If you're still interested, I'll let you know in a week or two. I just ordered the barebones kit of the w230ss from rjtech.com. I'm not planning on using bumblebee. I'm planning on using the nvidia-prime features that have been added as of 14.04. Phoronix article here: [Phoronix] Testing NVIDIA Optimus / DRI PRIME On Ubuntu 14.04. It seems to me that awareness for this new feature set is still pretty limited, but like I said, I don't know how well it works. Michael Larabel seems to think it works pretty well, but I'm guessing his technical abilities are slightly above average, to say the least.

Hi! I've extensively tested Ubuntu 14.04.1 on this unit and I must admit everything works pretty well except for a defect of the sound card (more info here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75151 ) which renders the whole experience a disaster. :( It's a shame, Ubuntu runs like a charm on this laptop.

Bumblebee works perfectly fine and I was able to dynamically switch between the two GPUs without problems. The bumblebee indicator icon is very handy (even though it's not included in Ubuntu's repos). Just make sure to follow the official guide about Bumblebee and to install the proprietary driver (also, remember to match Bumblebee's config file to the driver you installed).
