Anyone know if the backlit keyboard on the W355ST will work with the W350ST? I have the W350ST and would love to be able to purchase just the backlit keyboard for it. From the pictures on the Notebookcheck review the motherboard and keyboard connection look exactly the same as the W350ST.

Can any of the resellers confirm this?

Also, Notebookcheck gave the W355ST a score of 84% while the W350ST got 86% but supposedly its the same chassis, why the 2% less score?

The W series never has used an MXM slot.

Backlit keyboards require a motherboard connector to work which wont be on models that never shipped with a keyboard.

Yup, but one could hope for them to add it . ^^

As for the review it would appear the W355ST runs quite a bit hotter than W350ST, and the screen seems to be different to, I suppose this is what brought the score down to 84%, real shame, why does Clevo seem to take two steps backwards for every step forward, I do not get how they can go from having a great chassis with great cooling, to having a chassis with mediocre cooling, isn't this supposed to be an upgrade/refresh of W350ST, it reminds me of the disgusting tribal leds, and Nightrider's 80s style affects above keyboard and the back of P375SM, the new chassis designs look good to, why in the world would they add something so ugly? I am pretty sure a child could come up with a better looking design .

When did the W350ST first come out?

 Oh well, lack of a backlit keyboard is really my only major complaint on my W350ST (and maybe the speakers but not so much) other than that its really a great machine. So basically, the only way to use this backlit keyboard on my existing W350ST I would need a whole new motherboard correct?

Five months for a refresh, not bad. I like the light up keyboards, as long as they don't blind you. That screen is disappointing, but might improve battery life?

Pretty good refresh for Clevo, we normally dont see one until new CPU chipsets come around. Too many other 15.6" notebooks come with backlit keyboards so they almost had to to stay competative.

Yea, it takes a new motherboard.

But we did just add the option to our Pollux 1413 (Which is based on the W35xST), the backlit is just a $46 upgrade

Adding an MXM slot is not likely to happen due to the penalty to thickness of the machine.

I am looking for a new laptop to replace my aging current Acer and I was down between the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 and the Clevo W355ST. The Dell is available locally and is about $300 cheaper than the specs I'd order for the Clevo but I'm seeing several significant problems in the Dell owners thread.

Can anyone who owns the W355ST do me a favor and shoot a video of the 355, specifically the fan level and the illuminated keyboard? Anything else you want to include would be great.

    Thanks!
    Statik

Is there a similar 17,3'' refresh?

i wouldnt mind seeing the w370st version of this for the keyboard. I have seen many laptops these days have backlit keyboards installed and the power routed to a spare usb port. Could easily be done with the usb 2 port we have sitting on ours. could even make a cutoff switch

It's the only option for those whose systems do not have a port from the motherboard. Just be careful with the soldering iron and do it out of warranty.
