Has anyone seen this in person? Looks pretty slick.

Not sure about availability worldwide. System76 will ship their Galago UltraPro in July, not sure if other US resellers will carry this one yet. If you're in the market for a 13-14" ultrabook and this one is definitely worth looking at.

    Specs:

    4th Generation Intel Core i7-4750HQ Processor ( 2.0GHz 6MB L3 Cache - 4 Cores plus Hyperthreading )
14.1" 1080p Full High Definition LED Backlit IPS Display with Matte Finish (1920 x 1080)
Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 with 128 MB eDRAM

I must admit this looks pretty interesting, I wonder if that 14.1" FHD panel connects via regular dual channel LVDS cable? Would be cool to upgrade the panel in my work given dell e6430 from HD+ to FHD if possible.

Wow, nice looking laptop. Curious to see performance of the HD 5200. That actually makes for a nice ultrabook.

Agreed. I've been waiting for the new Samsung series 9 13" or 15" laptops to refresh but I have a soft spot for Clevo machines.

One thing it seems to lack is wireless-ac.

Is there anything preventing the use of these GT3e equipped processors in other clevos? I wouldn't mind putting one in the new 13" when it hits.

Yes, the GT3e processors are BGA only and not rPGA so thats why there is only one CPU choice as they are attached at the factory.. Unless you guys want to put in for a BGA machine.. For the low low price of 20K :p

I'm strongly considering this, just a bit unsure about the hinge design. Wish it looked a bit more modern but the specs still look great and the price should be competitive. Really its between this and the Gigabyte P34G for me, but I doubt the Gigabyte will release in the U.S. this summer.

What does the battery life looking to be for the W740SU?

The specification of this laptop is awesome, but why the hell Clevo don't include eSATA interface in their 14'' laptop!!!

This is a great disadvantage for me, using a SATA-protocol external drives over an USB interface is no-sense for me!!

Also I think the price in System76 is over: 8GB RAM, 120GB mSATA and the Atheros WiFi chip bring the price to +1300 USD!! Hope other resellers has another price tag for that laptop.

system 76 always charged a linux premium on their notebooks

esata was DOA and it became more dead with USB3

According to early benchmarks it's somewhere between 630m and 650m.
Results vary according to the games played.

It only has performance at 720p, beyond that performance drops considerably at any higher resolution. So don't expect 1080p gaming, just 720p.

Yeah, it's respectable when compared to the Intel HD 4000 graphics, but performance is on par (roughly) with a 645M, with some variance.

Does that mean the FHD screen is a waste when gaming? Or does the actual resolution still help?

Does anyone know when this may come out? Not the sleekest design but I'm leaning towards buying.

On the one hand, you won't be running games at native resolution, 1280x720 is the best you should hope for in titles like far cry, crysis, anything intensive. Things like TF2 will probably still be fine at native res. On the other hand 1280x720 won't look too bad upscaled because of the high native resolution. I guess the question is what do you mean when you say gaming? This is still integrated graphics, it's still a bit naff, it's just less naff than ever before :D

Problem is with the HD 5200 (with on-die vRAM) you sacrifice CPU performance. They drop the speed by 300-400MHz compared to non GT3e CPU's. So unless the GT3e can more than make up for the CPU performance loss, I don't know.

Does that mean it's going to drop to like 2.1 or 2.0 or is it already factored in on the box ?

CampGareth is right. The FHD screen will still look great in any case; I wouldn't call it a waste, even if some games are not designed to run in 1080p resolution. :)

System76 only has their biggest laptop with backlit keyboard. I'd've bought this (Galago UltraPro -- as branded by System76) right away if it wasn't for lack of backlit keyboard. It's not an Ultrabook as defined by Intel, and they're not marketing as such. Thus, I believe they can get away with not having a backlit keyboard. Rest of the specs make this machine da bomb!

Is this laptop prohibitively expensive, or is tech in Poland just crazy prices?
As much as I was looking forward to this, at that price I'd be better off with the Acer v7...

    Well its europe...

I'm thinking is the integrated graphics bit too much of a compromise. It drains a lot of power in regular use (47W ws 37 (haswell 4702)). When I'm gaming I use the plug anyways, so extra power consumption of geforce 760 or 765 doesn't matter. I'm scared Core i7-4750HQ will hurt the battery live in regular use, using 21% more energy than 4702. For instance MSI GE40 or Clevo W230 with optimus graphic cards drain just 37W of power for CPU & GPU if you choose 4702

It won't use 21% more energy assuming you're looking at 37W vs 47W TDP, which would actually be 27% (10/37W), but it doesn't quite work that way. That's TDP (heat dissipation energy) not power consumed, and even then, that is peak power load, not idle or light use, which they will be nearly identical. Just the 47W chip will be able to do more work on demand than the 37W chip because of faster speed and possible for higher boost due to higher TDP.

It's probably way too expensive. It jumps the price by a large margin since intel demands a hefty share.
Can't say exactly by how much the price will rise, but since it's not free like USB 3.0 and DP and not nearly as important as HDMI the companies don't see the point of jumping on a new unfounded technology which will cost them dearly.
We'll be able to see the price difference when the Gigabyte P35K comes out in two versions, one with the TB and the other without :)

Somewhat different specs (compared to first post) are on Clevo's website:

    CLEVO - Products

In particular, screen is 14" (instead of 14.1) and weight is 1.9kg (instead of 1.72).

    Battery life is "360 minutes".

What is a Polymer Smart Lithium-Ion battery ?

    I thought there was only Li-poly or Li-on .

Also, laptop noob here, are wireless cards usually half-pci sized ? Cause the wireless card slot in this thing is half sized .

Do you think any resellers will have option to customize with discrete graphics? Or is it only built with Iris?

I think the hinge design looks a bit outdated. Still very interested but wish it didn't connect like that. Does anyone else think it's a bit odd looking?
