I'm pretty new to this whitebox thing so please excuse any stupid questions or misuse of jargon.

I am considering the Cleveo W765TUN / Sager NP7650 offered on XoticPC. I am a little hesitant b/c it is not using the most up-to-date chipset (it has Intel PM45 + ICH9M). I asked XoticPC about a refresh but they said the model is only 2 months old and no info about when/if it will update. I did some searching on the Clevo website and I believe I found the refresh; W765CU (chipset is PM55). Of course no one offers this even as a barebones laptop anywhere. So I'm wondering if I have any options but to just wait for someone like XoticPC to decide to carry the newer model (this seems unlikely anytime soon given the fact that I can't even find a single review for the older W765TUN which probably means it is in very low demand).

Here are the links to each laptop on Clevo's website:

I'm more interested in the PM55 chipset for i7 (or soon i5). Is there anyway I could obtain the newer one from Clevo, it appears they only sell to resellers like XoticPC (actually, does Clevo sell it to Sager who then sells it to XoticPC? If not, why does XoticPC sell it under the Sager badge?)

Also, if I went with the currently available model, I know it could never upgrade to the i5/i7 processors. But what would be the max upgrade I could theoretically do to this (currently they offer C2D T9900 @ 3.06 GHz). Would a Core 2 Quad Extreme be an option (and if so, would I actually be able to find one in about 1.5-2 years?) I know the RAM is limited to DDR2 800...would that slow down C2Q extreme CPU's?

I know laptops suck for meaningful upgrades, but I'd like to know what's possible so I can make an informed decision. Again, sorry in advance for any stupid questions you've heard 100 times before.

NOTE: I have pretty modest requirements for my GPU, and would like something a bit smaller than the Sager NP8xx series. You can find my "What Laptop Should I Buy" thread here.

I'm trying to answer some of my own questions. It looks to me like you could upgrade a PM45 chipset to QX9300 though it looks like the RAM in this one would limit the FSB speed to 800. Anyone have anyfeedback regarding this possible upgrade to the Sager NP7650?
