    Hey all!

Does anyone have experience accessing the top of the motherboard on the W860CU? I need to get to the LVDS Cable side that connects into the motherboard.

    W8xxCU_ESM.zip

That's the link to the Service manual, but I'm not sure exactly how to reach the top of the motherboard based off that. Any help for those of you more technically inclined would be fantastic :) I have no problem taking out and switching up the things on the bottom of the motherboard, but the top is giving me trouble.

It seems to indicate I would have to take the entire top of the laptop off to get to the top of the motherboard. But once I get the keyboard off, I'm not sure what else needs to be taken out to make that happen.

    Thanks!!

Searched high and low for somebody with information saying how they did this replacement and couldn't find a thing. I did find a post by a user here saying that he bought a screen while in China but didn't specifically state whether he replaced it himself or had a tech do it. Being unfamiliar with this model offhand, won't be too much, but wouldn't hurt reaching out to the user to see if they have any insight into it. Doesn't look like he has enough posts for PM though.

    Thanks for the reply Derek.

Unfortunately, I have replaced the screen itself and it didn't fix my issue. (You can replace the screen without replacing the cable). The cable is much harder to get to unfortunately....

In my [general] experience, you need to remove every screw securing the backing and the bellies that cover the components (hard drive, RAM, etc.), as well as any screws in the battery compartment, then gently pry the top of the case up and lift (be careful about how much you flex the plastic). I can't recall an exact tear down procedure for this model either, though. Just going off tear down's I've done on other systems. And of course, I don't promote you do anything outside your level of expertise/knowledge for the sake of your computer. :)
