    Hey there,

So my Clevo W86CU is about 2 years old now and it is having some performance issues. In addition, I recently got a notification about how my battery doesn't hold a charge anymore so I am in the process of upgrading that.

Here are my specs and I'll list the issues/upgrades below:

    15.6" HD Display
    GTX 285M
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
    i7-720QM Processor
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

    Issues:

    - Whenever I play a game or do a high performance task the computer slows down and stutters (for games around 5 - 10 fps) when unplugged from the charger.

    - Fans are incredibly loud and the laptop tends to heat up to around 80C when a high performance task (game) is running

    Upgrades

I am thinking that most of these problems may be due to a lot of power being drawn from the battery. I am looking to upgrade the battery (if possible) rather than just replacing the original. Also I was looking into upgrading the RAM going from 4gb to 8gb.

Does anyone know what could be causing the above issues? Also if anyone could help me with a battery upgrade as well as RAM uprade that would be great. I don't really know where to begin when it comes to upgrading these two components (retailers/parts) so any help would be greatly apprectiated.

    Thanks!

    welcome to nbr
quite an easy one to answer, its advisable not to use battery for gaming. they are not built for this purpose and will deffo shorten its life a lot quicker than normal use.

    80c temps are fine

what part of the world are you from and then we can advise on where to get parts.

    Hey thanks for the response!

I'm in Ontario, Canada and am willing to look at pretty much anyone that will ship to Canada except for overseas companies.

I can't believe this actually... Every issue I've had (power wise) is all because I NEVER removed the battery before gaming... I honestly always thought the battery had to be in WITH the PSU in order to play something. I actually feel so stupid now haha, thanks a lot you really made my day :D.

no worrys mate. we all learn something new on here every day. you dont need to remove the battery but make sure its plugged into mains when playing games.

anyone in canada give advise on parts suppliers.

my first battery lasted 11 months as i always kept it connected. got replaced under warranty and the battery i have now is over 3 years old now and still has a 98% charge.

there are a lot on here that say it doesnt matter if its connected or not but ill stick to removing it with 40% charge when i know im not going to use it for long times. you can find a couple of battery monitors in my signature below as well as a lot of other useful monitoring software.

Are you sure it's a capacity issue? Try testing one module/stick at a time in different banks if you haven't already.

And it doesn't matter which slots you use? It could be a faulty board.

Just make sure the sticks are the same, if they are different it can cause that issue if each work by themselves in each slot.
