Eurocom just finished up their configurator for the new W870CU, code name Cheetah:
    https://web.eurocom.com/EC/ec_model_config1(1,208,0)

As of yesterday, the configurator was still in the works.

W870CU comes with i7 mobile cpus, a MXM 3.0b video card slot and finally with 2 HDDs with Raid 0 and 1 capability

    Base price is 2017 USD.

Nice looking model and well priced - interested in it saying the cpu and ram are both 1333 speeds, should this result in good speed jump from the 1066 speed fsb and ram? I wanna see core i7 notebooks asap, and launch date for this is listed as 1st November, bwargh!

Hopefully MXM upgrade option will create a good market for future 3xxm gtx cards, would have liked to hear about real 4870 or some info on 5800s for it rather than 280gtx, it's the best single card maybe, but it's just shrinks and renames of an old card, I'd like to see something of the real 200/300 or 5800 happening.

Sure, this page is internal and not reachable from their product list menu, but as I said it was just being finished and it includes their pricing, which despite not being the most competitive is not out of the blue.

Also, the launch of the W860CU in Europe is believed to be late September according to the following post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=412388&page=24

Why wouldn't be late September the release date for the W870CU too? I remember that Sager NP9280 went for sale at the beginning of May without any prior warning or configurator leakage. Cebit appearances not included.
You are welcome to find any configurator or pricing information on D900F/Sager NP9280 prior to this post: http://www.xoticpcforums.com/showthread.php?p=12963

Of course, I wouldn't order through this web page yet, at least without calling them first. ;)

Sorry for spoiling the party; you can replace the DVD drive with the third disk drive, though without RAID option. ODD stands for Optical Disk Drive.

History should not be forgotten, but from my shorter experience on this forum it seems that Clevo seems to enjoy pulling the new rabbit of the hat rather abruptly. Any stuttering moves will hurt sales of the current models because of the people waiting for the new system. This is the main reason of the NDAs that the resellers have to abide.

Interesting that the MR 4870 and 280m are identically priced. And whether the 1.66 Ghz CPU the is sweetspot, or be it 1.73 - we'll have to wait to find out.

Drop 280m, and the price is actually decent - though no idea whether the full HD screen is LED lit, or CCFl.

Wholy Cow, is this my new laptop? :)

Configured nicely (920 Extreme), about $3988.

Too bad the Cheetah doesn't allow for 280m SLI... does Clevo have any plans for such an i7 Mobile based SLI beast? Seems a shame to spend $4k on a laptop without SLI.

Which video chipset will play best with the i5? Nvidia, or ATI? Nvidia seems to have better luck with mobile driver support, but the myth is that Nvidia boards have problems playing nicely with i7... my GTX285 seems to kick nicely with an i7 965 at 4ghz.

Anything else to know about Clevo? What dealer is best here in the US? I am in Northern California.

    Gah, another decent spec'd laptop wrecked by a 1920x1080 display. 1920x1200 is WAY TOO MANY PIXELS apparently. -.-;

Sad thing is otherwise it would be perfect for me. they even moved some of the ports around in ways that are favorable to my desk setup. I also dig the chicklet style keyboard.

Why are you surprised, when the market has been trending towards the 16:9 aspect ratio since 2008?

We all knew the next Clevos would be 1600x900 and 1080p.

Most people who complain about a 1080p 17.3" LED have never even seen one in person.

I never said I was surprised, thus the word "another."

Also, I see no benefit at all in a lower resolution, especially at an even larger size. As the owner of three 17" 1920x1200 laptops, I can safely say I *like* 1920x1200 at this size, and yes I can complain about the trend of taking away our pixels.

    Not on EUROCOM's website.
When you configure with with the 4870XT price remains the same.
But things could change and It should be slightly cheaper.

Yup, tough decision. Had lotsa good luck with Nvidia drivers ('cept Vista Beta), and mostly the same for ATI. Physx... Better support of i7 with ATI..

Tough one, I guess I will try to hunt down some benchmarks. I recall there was a mobile GPU site that collected benchmarks of laptop graphics cards, haven't looked for it since the G2s days.

There are way too many variables in your comparison(Crossfire vs SLI). I think a better comparison is the 260M vs 4850. The 4850 is faster in shader heavy games(aka, games run with high detail settings).
However, the 280M will catch up to the 4870 because not only does the 280M have a higher clockrate but it also has more shaders. Where as the 4870 is only a higher clock version of the 4850. So, the 280M will bridge the gap because of the increased shader count. I think its closer to a toss up between the 280M and 4870 than some are making it out to be. However, if you don't mind overclocking, the 4870 has some great headroom.

That said, if I were buying now I would get the cheapest GFX card option and save money for DX11 class cards.

For Crossfire it does, but the drivers have no issue with a single card setup, which should be no problem for this notebook.

Yup, and I have faith that Asus/ATI will work out the Crossfire issues on the W90 for Vista and Windows 7.

And the W870U has only 1 card, which I assume would work great with the latest ATI drivers.

Actually there aren't too many variables, if you can balance 2 variables, you can compare the 280m and 4870, or 280mSLI and 4870x2 on the links Sp3ctrum/I included above. There are likely differences due to driver versions, and other variables.

Probably this is why they are the same price, both cards are comparable; with some tests faster on the 280m, and some faster on the 4870.

I like to mix it up and give both vendors some $, so I typically alternate between vendors, laptop to laptop, desktop to desktop. Both ATI and Nvidia have been very good to work with all along.
