How can I update-unlock the BIOS for the Clevo X7200?
How much ram can it handle (Windows 7 x64 Home here)? which brand do you recommend?
-if you also have a guide on how to install it, it's appreciated, thanksas I need to upgrade my ram.
-
-
You have to remove the keyboard in order to install new RAM. Under the keyboard there are the 3 slots for RAM. I can email the assembly guide later, if you want.
-
thank you!
only 3 slots? in cpu-z it shows 6, but perhaps I am mistaken. -
3 slots for sure
.
PM me your mail address, when I am back from work I´ll mail you the assembly guide. -
-
home premium, mind me, not home basic.

Yes that is a limitation of home premium.
-
do you feel I should upgrade to Ultimate?
-
is there any compatible RAM model that you'd recommend?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well how much ram do you need?
-
err, the maximum possible?
-

The thing is 12GB is enough for most normal users, are you doing something that needs more than that? You could try putting 3x8GB sticks in.

any good 8GB compatible with my clevo then?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well it will either work with all of them or none, there is no point getting the fast modules, stick with 1600mhz.
-
ok, but I mean if you have any recommended brand and model that you know will work.

Looks like DR650SE was running 24GB so I would go with sticks like:
Newegg.com - PNY 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model MN8192SD3-1600-X9
That's actually the cheapest on the egg, you get CL9 timings which are normal (better than 11) and 1333mhz is actually the fastest the system supports. -
never head of that brand...
-
I use Corsair Vengeance 8GB. Found here: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Laptop: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör
You can put up to 24 GB in it, 3x 8GB is possible. At the time the service manual was published, only 3x 4 GB were supported, and I think "officially" Clevo never said that 3x 8 would work, but they do.
I use 2x 8GB, I can´t use the third slot, it´s defective.Dark_Ansem likes this. -
oh no and how could you fix it?
-isn't that a 4GB model?
are they good?
my current RAM is 2GB x 3, triple channel, max bandwidth 667 mhz, samsung. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Some motherboards the 3rd channel seems to break and if it does there is nothing you can do. Ensure the system is completely powered down (battery and ac removed) and be careful when putting the module in.
-
I don't have to touch the yellow parts, right?
-
.
I posted the wrong link: http://www.amazon.de/Corsair-Vengea...=1385296085&sr=8-13&keywords=corsair+8gb+1600
To tell you the truth, I can´t tell you if they are "good" - they are working without any problems. -
well, you use them.
consequentially, since I like you and I trust your judgement, they must be good.
and surely, they'll work better than my 6gb samsung memory!
EDIT: what CL is that memory?
Higher than 1600Mhz would be wasted, right? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
-
so anything higher than 1333 will be wasted money? -

-
ah, so I can simply buy a higher voltage and it will downgrade automatically?
EDIT: can CPU-z tell me if one of my slots of RAM is broken? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well do you have 6Gb of ram showing? If you do then all 3 of your sticks are working.
-
yes, in both CPU-z and the Windows experience index, at least for now
EDIT: CPU-z, however, has only 2 of 6 (?) slots higlighted, the others are grayed out. -
1. if I update the BIOS they will stay updated even after a pc complete format , right?
2. can anyone recommend a Bootable low level format utility? if it could also allow for RAID set-up I'd love it. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes they will stick.
You can setup and format the drives within the raid controller (place the hdd mode to raid to show it)
Most software only sees 2 of my 4 sticks. -
I see, thanks.
How do I put the HDD in RAID mode? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
In the bios. Look for a hdd controller set to AHCI (or raid if it's already set).
-
ah, that one. that one I know.
but I mean a bootable low-level tool so I can hopefully get rid of those delays around... -

When you enable raid on boot you should see a new spash screen to enter the raid manager with CTRL + S if I remember correctly (it will tell you what to press).
