This makes no sense. It's kinda up to the different options you've got.. the specs you know, not fair bechmarking anything and btw they are pretty equal too, besides the X7200 is discounted now, it's all about the P270WM but that thing is beast, the M18X isn't even in that category yet :)

Completely depends of specs. But in general the Alienware is going to cost more for the same performance.

here we go again.... If you upgrade HDD/RAM yourself and are persistent enough to snatch a good discount, - it will cost less than a similarly equipped Sager ;) Also, keep an eye on special deals at Dell.com. They have new deals every couple of weeks and you can save hundreds. there was a deal at dell.ca a few months back when ppl got M18x with 2x580Ms +1.5TB storage + 16GB RAM for 2.4k. Wish you luck getting a similar deal on a X7200.

that was quite a few months back, shortly after the 580Ms appeared in Canada. There was a recent deal in the US, when a 580M-> SLI upgrade was like 50$ extra and a 2960XM+2x580M config with some extras was around 3.4k ( before a possible 15-20% rep discount). With Dell, it's about vigilance and patience.

Again, Sager prices are very fair but non-negotiable and in most cases, those blindly copy-pasting and comparing from Dell.com vs Sager(and resellers) will see the advantage of the later. But if you dig deeper, research, strip all the HDD/RAM/wifi upgrades, grab a deal, things will change drastically.

    Great points..

I've had some good dealings will dell (only bad one was buying a refurb).. usually end up with free upgrades for my troubles.

They'd have to make a 15" with similar specs to the p150 though as I didn't like the power of the 14x, and I don't feel the 17x is portable enough for my needs. And bring back Lunar Silver :D that was a great color imo..

edit: what's the custom logo on your m18?

I don't own the x7200 but I do own the P180HM which I think is a better comparison against the m18x. Surprisingly after owning both for a month now Id take the P180hm over the Alienware m18x. Its built better, and is MUCH EASIER to upgrade and work on. It does lack the backlit keyboard, but I still like the chicklet style keybaord better regardless and the overall layout. Too bad its being discontinued as well.

Or you can wait for the next new model which is the real competitor of M18x.

It all depends how you configure it. Both have dual MXM slots(so you can run 2 video cards in crossfire or sli), so in reality both have basically the same performance potential when its all said and done.

The cards perform roughly the same in real world situations....but unless you have a really go router then it really doesnt matter what wifi card you have installed, or swap out to.

    ^^ Lol, what race?!

If you are talking about max benching scores, the AW wins. But generally:

    CPU (1-8 threads apps) - M18x
    CPU (9-12 threads) - X7200
    GPU - M18x
    Max storage capacity - X7200
    Battery Life - M18x
    Lower noise - M18x
Extra features (backlit keyboard, WirelessHD transmitter, 2 headphone jacks) M18x
    SlimmER - M18x
    LightER - X7200

    That's for starters :)

wait there are some mistakes in your post,
    GPU = x7200 because it runs 16 x 16
Lower noice = x7200 , I have heard if the m18x fans start to spin ,its like started an old car.

Aren't you a builder Akimox/reseller? He's probably had both in his possession.

If you want benches, take twenty mins and I'm sure you can find similarly spec'd machines (as similar as possible anways) in their respective forums..

You know, if you choose to believe in something, - be my guest. Luckily, we have quite a bit of facts here to support my posts. Check the M18x benching section. M18x max GPU only Vantage score (no Physx) is about 34000 for the 580MSLI and ~32000 for the 6990MCF. Until we see someone from the X7200 owners beat those scores, it is a solid fact.

As for the noise, I not only owned both machines but also had them on my desk at the same time fully maxed out and tested the noise level. The M18x maxes at about 45-46DB while the Clevo goes up to 55-57DB, quite a bit louder. So instead of guessing you can check some reviews, for example here and here. No review is 100% accurate but you can get a general impression.

BTW, build quality award also goes to M18x, while the Clevo has better QC.

Yes, I had both in my possession benched and tested side by side :)

Well, not going to part with it, its the SO's rig, I would never pay full price for an m18x, just picked up a refurb at a good price which is why I pulled the trigger. I am looking at doing the NP9270 though.........just wish they did something like this using a laptop i7 CPU and with another 18" screen.......honestly the desktop CPU just draws more power and really doesnt have much if any performance benefit unless you spend SERIOUS MONEY for the high end desktop CPU option.......and for the price, its not worth it. Not for the typical multimedia user or gamer anyway.
