    Hi -

I'm looking to pick up a new notebook and definately plan on getting a Clevo and need a 15" form factor and so am looking at the W860CU. I would have liked to get a Sager but there are two items I'd really like to get which Sager doesn't offer:

    • 1600x900 screen (Plenty of pixels for me and I'd like to improve performance numbers at the screens native resolution (vs a 1920x1080 screen))
    • gtx 470m

In searching through Clevo resellers, Eurocom seems to be the only one offering this combination but I have read through some of the negative comments in regards to Eurocom. Is anyone aware of other options? I'm not certain where the 470m is at in terms of availability...no one seems to offer it other than Eurocom (though Clevo's own site lists it as an option on the W860CU) so it must be supported.

I emailed Sager and they said they would be carrying the 470m but didn't know when or for which models.

I've got a bit of time to wait this out (it seems worth it to me for the 470m vs the 460m) but need to make a purchase by the end of the year at the latest.

Can anyone shed any light on getting the 470m?

    Thanks,
    Smurlin

    hi and welcome to nbr.
from past experience and you will be advised by many others "dont always believe what you read"
eurocom are ALWAYS the first to advertise new hardware be it new computers or graphics cards but arent always the first to receive them.

Ok...that sounds like a pretty confident statement :) ...is that just speculation or do you know something we don't?

Regarldess, it sounds like it's worth waiting. I'm reluctant to buy from Eurocom based on what I've read here and would like to go the Sager/NP8690 route with the 470m even if it meant I had to take the full HD (1920x1080) resolution.

I'm 50/50 between a Sager NP8690-S1 or the newly released Asus G53 (shipping very, very soon... ;) ). Would you know if the 470M will be available as an option for the S1 deal? I know the S1 is nothing more than a promotional offer, but having the 470M as an option would tip the scale in favor of the Sager.

It is unclear at this moment if the S1 deal will continue when the 470M releases. Either way I am sure there will be good deals offered for the Sager NP8690 with this card... :)

Thanks for that...I'm in Canada but I've been looking at US resellers also. It's just a question for me of squeezing the best performance that I can out of a 15" form factor before year's end... and that would seem to be the 470m. Right now only Eurocom offers it (well, they claim to). However, I thought that Eurocom bought directly from Clevo and weren't actually reselling Sagers... that would make sense that they might then be able to offer the Clevo with the 470m sooner while other true resellers can't because Sager's not offering it yet.

Also, it would be nice to drop the screen res too... odd that 1600x900 has pretty much dried up as an option on most sites.

i know the B5100M/NP5125 comes with a 1600x900 screen but only a 425M graphics card which was recently upgraded from a 330M

IIRC, the 5870 is about $400, and if 470M is $425 more than that, that means it's basically a 480M.

I'm pretty sure I'm wrong because $800 for 470M would be ridiculous.

And also, where are the benches for 470M? I've been waiting for a month now.

this is so ridiculous , 460m didn't even equal to 5870m in performances and now we have to pay 395$ more for 470m just a bit higher than 5870? what is nvidia thinking? with this price , it should be equal to 480m or no one is going to buy it..
I have been skipping 460m just to wait for this one to come out and now it's really dissapointing me . Can resellers just put back hd 5870m for order? this card is so perfect and still a king of the hill.

Wow...that is alot. Eurocom has it as a $200 upgrade which doesn't seem to jive with the Xotic pricing. Too good to be true if Xotic has it as a $395 upgrade?

like i mentioned before, eurocom always jump the gun and post first to get the pre orders in before they even know the price.
this has happened in the past with other cards and laptops and will happen again.

The pricing of the 470m got me thinking, is this chip gonna replace completly the power hungry 480m ?
Is this the reason we wait a little bit more for the 470m, to clear the stocks of 480ms (via the sli x7200 :)) )

Because it's hard for me the place it performance wise between 5870 and 480m.

<aybe the 470m is gonna replace the 480m in the performance category, but at 75w, and 100w is reserved for a future "485m", wich could be a higher clocked 470m, since the chips used for 470m performas better power wise.

Maybe the 470m is gonna replace the 480m in the performance category, but at 75w, and 100w is reserved for a future "485m", wich could be a higher clocked 470m, since the chips used for 470m performas better power wise.

What the hell? The 470M pricing makes ZERO sense.

A chip based from the GTX 460 shouldn't cost as much as 4 of them.

Nvidia has totally lost me. I'll wait for the Mobility 6870 then.

Laptop people all over the world !
We should start a world complain or something. For years we have been treated with high prices on mobility GPU, just because they are used in laptops, when in fact, they are in reality cheap (compared to the high end) desktop chips with an extra bit of tunning. Thus, for instance, the 5870mobility radeon should be on par, if not cheaper (the physical card is smaller) than a desktop 5750/5770 from wich it is derived.

Same with 470m and 460m. I don't know exactly (but i can sure find out) what desktop chips the 460m and 470m are derived from, but i bet the prices between the 2 variants (laptop and desktop) are in no way comparable.

WE, AS LAPTOP USERS, SHOULD PAY VERRY LITTLE MONEY on OUR GPU, not tons of extra, the way it is now.

WE SHOULD REVOLT ! AND BUY THEIR expensive chips NO MORE !!!

In this regard, AMD seems to be mannered and NVIDIA seems to have a thick hide !

Nvidia has to make up the losses from selling GF104 at or below cost in the desktop market.

I'll be shocked, if anyone other than Clevo picks up a chip this expensive.

Depends on if there's a GTX 485M coming...or how far off a GTX 580M is.

If the GTX 470M does to the GTX 480M what GTX 460 did to GTX 465 then a 470M might show up in an Alienware M17x...Dell knows their buyers will pay the premium.

If there's a GTX 485M on the way though other manufacturers could skip GTX 470M.

Anything which comes in at more than +$150 over the Mobility 5870 was sent to die. That's allowing a $500 chip.

They can afford to sell mobile GF104 at a 200% markup.

    Hello Babyhemi,

I´m a little confused about the W870CU aka Sager NP8760 - this model was replaced by W880CU and only had USB 2.0 - the one that you sell at your shop has 1 USB 3.0 port as the W880CU - is there a new revision of the W870CU out?
    Thanks!

Yes, all of the new W870CU-Sager NP8760's coming out of Clevo in the last few weeks has the 1 USB 3.0 port. It is a revision to the earlier W870CU. These new updated ones have been shipping from many Clevo and Sager resellers for a little while now...

Thanks, does that mean the only difference between W880CU and W870CU is the AC adaptor? Or is the cooling system still the same and different than the W880CU?
Some weeks ago I asked a german reseller if I could upgrade what seemed to me as a W880CU with a GTX 460m to a GTX 480m later - and he said yes. But now I would say that´s not THAT easy, if he would sell me a W870CU instead...

    You're being misinformed. There's no W88 w/ 460M and no W87 can be upgraded to the 480M.

The difference between the two chassis goes way beyond the AC Adapter. Internals, cooling, and dimensions are different.

The bottom of the chassis is deeper to allow for more cooling and for the larger heatsink that is required for the 480M card in the W880CU. The bottom remove cover is thicker, deeper on the W880CU. Your best upgrade option I believe for the W870CU will be to get a 470M card when available... :)

    Thanks for clearing this up!
The problem is: There are a lot of resellers where it is not clear, they sell both chassis under the same name.
Example 1: mysn.de -> You order the P700 there, and as an option for the video card, you can choose between GTX 460m, 480m oder the ATI 5870...:
    Schenker Notebooks - Xtreme Mobile Gaming | mySN.de - P700 PRO Gaming Notebook 43,9cm (17,3")

Example 2: Deviltech.de sells the W870CU/ W880CU as Fragbook DTX with the options similiar to mysn.de:
DevilTech - High Performance Systems - _Fragbook DTX #
(I asked Deviltech if I could upgrade later from GTX 460m to GTX 480m, answer was "You can upgrade everything if you could choose from configuration!")...
So this is the first time that I see the W870CU is still around, til then I thought there were no longer W870CU´s selling...

    THANKS again!

Just know, if you order with a 460 or 5870, they'll ship the W870CU.

Only by ordering the 480M option, will you receive the newest chassis.

I feel it's pretty shady to not be more clear with your customers.Someone who orders with the other GPUs is getting cheated, if they expect to have a W880CU.

srry off the topic , i'm going to order a W860CU and don't know which reseller i should buy from . Xoticpc is the only choice i know since they're Sager official reseller, they do send laptop to Sager for testing before shipping.
I see babyhemi here is also a reseller , can you tell me a bit about your company? i also want to the discount on laptop , right now as i know only Xotic offers the best prices

Read the Clevo Guide, for more resellers.

Send private messages or call for info. The resellers are under strict guidelines, regarding what they can say on the forums.

yeah but if you config a w870cu with a 470m its base price is more than w880cu s price i really dont get it is 470m more powerful than 480m i hope not then we can see a price drop in 470m chassis if it turns out to be a replacement for 480m and more powerful then i probably will get the 460m
it has only 96 more sps that will probably give 15% boost from 460m and 10% from 5870m

The GTX 470M at kobalt is £239 more than the GTX 460M but since the 460M is the base GPU, I am not exactly sure what it costs anyway.

However, the fact that you are paying £239 more gives you an idea. I wonder if you will end up paying £239 extra for an increase of 4 fps. I wonder if Nvidia are involved with the housing market too...........
