Clevo is an OEM, yes. Sager and others are not OEMs. They simply put their name on a Clevo system and sell it. It's the same deal with desktop graphics cards. You have nvidia and ati as OEMs, and then you have the plethora of brands that stick their name on the card(evga, xfx, sapphire), maybe make a few changes like heatsink and a small factory overclock, and resale it as their own.

I guess we should call Sager, Eurocom, etc as OEAs. Original Equipment Assemblers? They get the laptop itself from Clevo as a barebones and put in the CPU, WiFi card, HDD, etc. purchased from someone else. So I suppose "assembler" is more apt than "manufacturer".

I find it hard to believe that dual 480M's in SLI even with a desktop i7 920 would only score 16620 in 3dmark06, that seems pretty low.

I don't have high hopes for the 480m, but the site IS called "SemiAccurate" so...

Well, moreover, no settings etc, so we don't know how is the test done as well. As well as whether the 120hz screen would affect the score.

As well as the fact that semiaccurate = neveraccurate.

For me the "Sli benchmark" looks more like a single gpu benchmark, where the number would be more or less accurate...

The x7200 is still some month away from being released..

That's what I was thinking. It looks like what I would think one 480M would perform like on 06 with a desktop i7.

Yup i knew this notebook was going to be thick and heavy not surprised by that. Clevo is deceiving us anyway with the thickness of it. Besides that its a fine looking and conservative notebook with a very powerful processor and gpu, i do have some hopes of the 480GTX.

They should add SemiArticulate to their name too. That i-something-or-other-7 bit was annoying and the article as a whole was poorly written.

Well this all proves we are going to have to wait. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we will have some trustworthy numbers. For the single 480M that is. I wouldn't expect SLI numbers until July.

At least it's nice to see something, even though most of the info at the moment is probably not correct. ^^ As hemi said we will probably see some trustworthy numbers in the upcoming weeks.

    More Computex stuff on Clevo...

"Clevo explained that it is offering a notebook platform that targets gamers who want a mobile solution. The notebook supports dual 75W AMD ATI Radeon HD 5000 series mobile graphics, dual 75W Nvidia GeForce 400 series graphics or dual 100W Nvidia graphics. In addition, clients can upgrade their graphics solutions via support from Clevo."

I don't perceive Intel as peremptory. They are very much reactionary. They may be a little better about it ever since Athlon 64 caught them with their pants down, but they still lag in new sectors (see portable devices).

Why no picture taking at COMPUTEX? We know why...

"Over at the Clevo meeting room for COMPUTEX 2010, at least two different desktop replacements were on display. For some reason though, picture-taking wasn't allowed. So, for the X7200 and X8100, we only have our impressions, the spec we found online, and company product photos to share."

Clevo is notorious for being secretive. They are very conservative about releasing info before official release dates.

It looks like a reaction to me. AMD is already here with the mobile refresh, including the extreme editions and a very promising performance/price/TDP ratio. That's y I think that the rumors of Intel's releasing the SB in Q4 2010, have some ground. Dunno.

From what I have read, SB first releases will be for the non high performance sector, no extreme processors and such until Q2 in 2011. It looks like the soon to be released 940XM with the PM55 chipset will be the ultimate extreme CPU through the first part of 2011.

I personally suspect Nvidia might have had a hand in the secrecy...just like it's probably no coincidence that the notebook packing the GTX460M is the only notebook under plexiglass at the MSI booth.
