Hi guys, Im looking into getting a clevo notebook (the 15.6" with the Nvidia GT 555m available in mid May, dont know the model number, feel free to help me out there) and I just wanted to ask you about the build quality of them, and how warranty is handled.

Does Clevo handle any warranty at all or is it restricted to reseller warranty only?

How easy are Clevo machines to work on / repair / upgrade, and how is their build quality?

Who are the best resellers? Currently I am looking into R&J Technology, Clevo Barebone Notebook kits, Laptop and desktop system builder.

Are the motherboards in Clevo machines manufactured by Clevo? If so, what kind of options are available BIOS wise? For example, do Clevo BIOS allow you to overclock or underclock your system, adjust voltages, etc?

Thanks in advance for any input. ^_^

Usually Sager handles the warranties as they are the major distributor in North America. Clevo is merely the manufacturer and does not directly deal with you nor do they warrant your product.

Clevo products seem to be built to be easily serviceable. Whereas most laptops require lots of effort to disassemble (sometimes even having hidden screws) the Clevo machines usually have one panel that slides right off revealing almost everything.

The build quality is questionable. Definitely not as good as Apple or HP Elitebooks but still passable. The keyboards are rattly and the laptops have an overall cheap feel. You get the machine for the specs, not the looks. That's not to say they're not durable.

Most of the components seem to be manufactured by FoxConn, the same company that manufactures Apple, Dell, HP etc. products.

I'd go with a Sager reseller since Sager is a relatively big company and thus it's pretty good insurance in case a reseller goes out of business.

Xotic, PNB, LPC, Malibal seem to be popular Sager resellers. Mythlogic is a builder and relatively new but they also seem to be pretty popular here.

    Interesting.

The only problem I have with Sager is that all their notebooks have a big "Sager" logo on them. I am really looking for a badgeless machine (like factory Clevos) because in all likelihood I am going to paint it. :(

    Then Mythlogic is an option.

I'm pretty sure other resellers can remove it too. Also, you're looking at the NP 5165, which I'm getting. Good choice :)

Not having the "Sager" logo is definitely an option. Mine is a Sager, and does not have it. I ordered through LPC, and all I had to do was submit my request to them, which was in turn communicated directly to Sager.

We can remove our nameplate from the notebook so it's completely unbranded.
