What the hell? I am so damn confused. I don't get it. Is the Clevo D900C/M570RU MXM compatible or not?? I'm reading a hell load of contradicting articles. The people at MXM-upgrade say that MXM-IV is just something fancy which means "non-MXM". Then I did a search on these forums and found someone saying that it won't be upgradeable to DX10. What's going on?

EDIT: Here's the post from MXM-upgrade:

What the ass does that mean?

    Thats an extremely old post.

We know now that Clevo does have an MXM slot in their new notebooks... from its specs and looks, its been deemed to be MXM-HE (as compared to what they called MXM-IV).

In any case, the 7950GTX is using the MXM-HE(IV)... and the new 8700M GT is using MXM-III. (all of this is for the same MXM slot in the new Clevo's)

So, the supposed MXM in the Clevo is backwards compatible with all other MXM types? I guess MXM-Upgrade ought to update their site.

    Thanks.

their site is pretty much up to date.

Did you read all of the home page (news page)

    or the Laptop Table?

I've read the laptop table, but not all of the news page. All I saw was that M570RU was in the table with MXM-IV, and the guy saying that he'd never heard of MXM-IV and it was just a marketing sham.

EDIT: It says nothing on the home page that I can find about MXM-IV or the M570RU.

look about what he said on July 25.

it has to do with Clevo D900C.... but it goes the same for the M570RU.

I would not get bent out of shape. these notebooks are upgradeable... thats it. :)

I'm sorry, I'm not finding anything about the D900C. All I see on 25 July is "Look what we found on the IFL-90".

EDIT: I found something... but it's on June 13. Oh well. Thanks.

There is an update due soon. I was busy with the Shuttle x100 guide.

Anyways, "Type IV" has the Type HE slot but is about 115mm long instead of 100mm. Furthermore, I was unable to boot the card in a 'normal' MXM notebook. I'm not sure why. I need to do a few more tests and if they don't work out, Type IV will get a big 'dissaproved by MXM Upgrade' stamp.

If this turns out to be the case, this will be a huge disapointment.

Well, this only says something about the 7950GTX Type IV's compatibility with other MXM notebooks. The 8700 on Type III is something else and Clevo-Clevo compatibility is something else again.

guys... I just bought a clevo D901C with no video card. I need to buy a video card. As I understand from these lines is that Clevo uses type IV which is compatible with type III too. Is that true? I dont want to spend to much money on a video card. I'm not into games; I'm more into video and photo editing. I need a laptop that runs really fast. ThankS!

You should get a 8700M GT... they are the cheapest for these notebooks.

Contact www.rjtech.com or www.eurocom.com for it.

As for compatibility... MXM-IV is still too new to confirm... so I would not try any other MXM cards on it.
