I'm getting ready to take delivery of an xVx Monstruo-M S400 (Clevo m570u) and it's coming without an OS. I'm planning on XP MCE 2005 and I'm curious if there is anything I need to know, or have, in order to get that install done quickly.

I'm probably going to get it on Friday, and I'll need to have it up and running ASAP.

    Thanks for the help/heads-up!

you should not need to do anything except pop in the WinXP CD and let it boot off of that.

    It should be easy.

That's what I was hoping to hear. I was afraid I might have to make a slipstream disc for the sata/raid controller (even though I didn't go with a dual drive config)

no not at all, very easy to do, just put in the CD, no need to install Sata drivers, windows will see the hard drive.

    Perfect!
It seems unlikely I will get it by friday though. It didn't finish quality control in time for shipping yesterday, so it is going out today.

    I'm a sad panda.

Not too long ago I had to reinstall WinXP on my D900k with SATA hard drives. I had quite a few problems because it wasn't recognizing my hard drives so I could reformat the partition needed to install the OS. It ended up being quite an easy fix, I just downloaded a set of SATA drivers similar to what I originally was using before (even had some extra tools) and copied the file onto a floppy disk. During the very beginning of the setup it asks down at the bottom if you wish to install any 3rd party RAID or SCSI drivers as needed and to press a certain function-number key. After this, it showed the floppy disk attached and the file for the SATA driver and did it all on its own.

I'm not too sure why I've always had to install my own SATA drivers on my installs of XP when others have said that they haven't needed to.

Clevo M570U does not require SATA drivers on a floppy, only needed when running RAID.

The standard SATA is on IDE Mode, so the Windows Install should easily see the HDD with no problems.

Take a look at my thread when I got my Sager 5760 (Clevo m570U). Had a couple hiccups, but got it down to a science since a buddy of mine got the same model (but with slightly different specs).

Post back if you have any questions - be glad to help!

Awesome, thanks for the offer for help SickPup. I read your thread and I will be looking at a similar build (but am planning on MCE 2005).

How's that second drive working out? I might upgrade mine eventually with an additional drive with the same config you have.

Second drive I ended up using like an external (for aux storage only) since it replaces the CD/DVD. Ends up I really should have bypassed it. It would work in RAID, but then you'd need an external optical drive. Still nice though whn I have to share big files with a friend of mine who also got a 5760 - just pop out his optical and drop my HD in. I could have saved some bucks...

    T7400 C2D (2.16ghz)
    2GB Ram
    7950 GTX
    Windows XPE MCE 2k5

Install went like a champ, but as I feared, it's the same TV tuner that doesn't work under MCE 2005 so Vista may be in my future.

Anyway, here's my first run of 3DMark 2006!

Im thinking of buying the ClevoM570U/Monstruo S400 from XVX or RJtech. What do you suggest?

Do you know a European site where to by the same laptop for the same price as XVX or rjtech?

How the TV tuner works? Does it require an aerial or any cables?
