    Hello guys,

This is part 3 of my epic quest to find the cause of my 4 year old Notebook randomly slowing down to the point of having to restart.

If you want to know the whole story I'll sum it up at the end of my post.

Basically I need to buy a 1x 4Gb DDR3 Module, because one of my 2 SO DIMM Sockets is damaged. I emailed Clevo and they said that they can not know for sure if the m860tu Mainboard can run a 1x 4Gb stick. However the P45 Chipset of the Mobo ( http://www.intel.com/assets/pdf/prodbrief/p45-express-chipset-prod-brief-319947.pdf)
Apparently can support up to 8 gb, does anyone have closer info to this? Also I took a look at Amazon and they have lots of 4Gb DDR3 1333 MHz modules. I know the Mobo only supports 1066MHz, but I read that the 1333 MHz would still work, they would just be automatically underclocked.

The m860tu runs the P45 Northbridge and the ICH9M Southbridge (Intels link -> ICH10M). But as far as I know the southbridge is not responsible for the CPU,RAM,VGA interaction.

    Story
Anyway, it seems that I have found the problem and its RAM ated. I am 70% certain that one of the 2 SO DIMM Sockets is failing thus causing random system instability.
I removed one of the two 2Gb Sticks and am in the process of testing the Notebook for stability running 1x2 Gb only. This using the Socket that seems to be fine to see if I experience any more odd slowdowns.

Thanks for the quick reply, nope I haven't checked their web, I'm taking a look at it right now. I guess if they do repair I hope they know something about 1x4gb Sticks working on that Mobo, hope they take the time to reply :). I'd hit the jackpot if the stick does work since they are going for 20ish Euros on Amazon.

    ANSWER:
Okay, I found the answer and I'm willing to share it with you. Maybe there is someone that finds this information helpful so here it goes. According to the Review on Notebookcheck (Unfortunately in German) Test mySN XMG5 (Clevo M860TU) Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests they have tested it with 8 GB of DDR3 among other things.

Further down in the Review they have included some pic's of CPU-Z Running the 8 gb config, so I hope this also resolves the issue of which memory to get.
