Hi all, been looking at the forums for a few days, but theres a few things that aren't clear, and id love it if someone would help me out here.... From what i understand, Sager, rjtech and prostar are all Clevo rebranders/selllers...Now i know alot of places like pctourqe sells Sagers....but why does no one sell the Clevo re-branded rjtech and prostars? Are selling refurbs, bad support? I live in socal, near rjtech, and id like to support a local business but i don't want an inferior product and be stranded if something breaks. So i guess my questions are.
1. Is there any benafit to going with a Sager over a Clevo (one particular sager resellers tell me that id have absolutely no support with a Clevo from rjtech/prostar, and if i had a problem i'd have to send it over seas on my dime and hope i get it back) If i went with a CLevo am i still covered?
2. If i went with rjtech since they are 15 miles from me, are they a notable reseller, and mind you are 120.00 more than some of the safer sellers (ive heard bad things about eurotech and want to avoid that type deal)
3. If i wanted to someday upgrade the GPU (getting the one with the new ati card) Would i be able to use either sager or clevo parts since they are supposed to be the same?
4 Whats the likely hood a new GPU will be available to me at some point before they stop making cards that will fit my system? Having upgradeable gpus is great but if they dont make any whats the point...
Thanks much, and i'm sure theres other people here asking the same questions...if not, i am!

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Sager, Eurocom, and ProStar are distributors and they just slap on their badges and parts into barebone Clevo notebooks. XoticPC, PowerNotebooks, and PCTorque are "middlemen" resellers for Sager notebooks. RJTech is also a distributor but they do not rebrand; they sell Clevo notebooks as is with their own parts. All Clevo distributors sell Clevo notebooks new. As for customer support, I'll leave it up to others to answer for you.
A Sager notebook is a Clevo notebook. I can take a Clevo notebook and slap my own branding and logos on it and my company name "Soviet Systems," but it will still be a Clevo.
Sager resellers will tell you that you will have no support if you buy from RJTech or other non-Sager company. That is typical marketing competition at work. Of course a company is going to say that so they can get you to buy from them.
For the end-user that wants a complete notebook right out of the box, go with a Sager branded notebook bought from the reseller of your choice. They generally have the most competitive prices as well as strong customer support and warranty coverage. RJTech also sells the same notebooks but at a slightly higher total price, mainly because of higher individual component prices, but they are a very strong company and has yet to fail me in customer service and sales for the past seven years, and other Clevo users that have bought notebooks from RJTech.
Like I said above, Sager and Clevo notebooks are the same at base, but use the parts that the distributing company wants to use. For example, one company may prefer to use Seagate HDD's over Hitachi HDD's or Elpida memory over Micron memory. These are not Sager or Clevo parts, rather parts of their respective manufacturers, such as Intel. In short, yes.
All current Clevo notebooks are in position for a GPU upgrade when it comes. Typically, Clevo notebooks can upgrade one generation ahead in GPU from the time it is put into production. On the Nvidia side, the succeeding generation to the G92 will be able to work in our notebooks.
Finally, thank you for your service, socalpaintballer. Welcome to NBR. -
Great post soviet, one last question... since all the different builders, Sager, Rjtech and pro-stores can use different components, does one tend to use higher quality parts? and are the GPUS all made by the same company, or are those as well made by a number of companies?

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The only major parts that can differ are the system memory and the HDD.
The video adapter are ordered by Clevo and manufactured by any one of Nvidia's production contractors. -
ok cool, i should be safe with rjtech? Thanks for the help.

prostar = sager
sager,prostar > rjtech -
lol whats 10char mean?
Moo is there a reason you are saying Sager and prostar are better, or greater than rjtech? Please explain sir. -
10 caracters.
You type it if what you said wasn't 10 charecters. The forums requires more then 10 char. in order to post -
Like this
10 char( now it will post) -
oh ic....well how about my above Question @ you regarding sager/prostar?
-
Prostar is Sager. Same place and people.
They are all quality notebooks -
... Sager is the ONLY one who can import Clevo units to the USA period.... Pro Star= Sager Barebone machines.... Sager has exclusive contract with Clevo to be the only importer...
Barebone machines have different warranty and thats why Prostar was created to separate the 2 companys...
For anyone not believing this call Taiwan and speak to Clevo directly ... -
then why was rjtech created sicne they also deal in barebones no?
-
RJtech buy there barebones from Prostar who in turn are really Sager, basically just a separate division of Sager who only sell barebone.... It can be a tad confusing lol... -
RJtech was created because some guy wanted to go into busneiss selling barebones and making laptops
-
ahh, it is confusing, if i knew rj got their stuff from prostar, i may have ordered from prostar instead of rj
-
Either way same stuff
Clevo or Sager, new here need help.
