I remember when I had my P870DM3, there was no Synaptics icon in the taskbar and no setting as well I had to change the touchpad settings from PC Settings > Devices > Touchpad

Is it still the same now? or is there a way to get the actual Synaptics settings back and that taskbar tray icon?

A friend of mine recently bought sa P870TM1 so he asked me

what do you mean still the same? as in no icon and no separate Synaptics Settings just the Windows Touchpad settings?

I also tried installing the same driver which I am using on my MSI laptop Synaptics Tochpad Driver v19.3.4.193, for me I have the icon and he doesn't. What kind of Voodoo Magic is this? o_O

It's only a Synaptics/Clevo issue, you will never face this issue with any other brands.

I believe you have to go through the old school “Control Panel” to reach the Synaptic settings.

Go to “Control Panel”. View by “Category”. Then go to “Hardware and Sound” —> “Devices and Printers” —> “Mouse”, then should be a Synaptics tab that can set tray icon options.

I concur. Don't see it on mine either. Not even under control panel.

There must be a registry setting to unhide it, I think.

My issue with the synaptics drivers is that it adds a lot of smoothing into the trackpad, feels unnatural...

On my Clevo there is no Synaptics icon.
Settings are inside the new Windows 10 control panel. So this icon would be completly useless.

Not useless at all. With the Synaptics icon you get access to advanded options not available on the generic windows 10 touchpad settings.

One way I managed to get the icon back, was installing my old AW 18 windows image on the Clevo P870TM1. The problem is the movement is not as smooth as with the clevo drivers, but no doubt the hardware is capable of more options.

Any tips on how to unhide it? I've been searching the internet for tips but can't find a solution anywhere. I really miss the momentum/inertia function and can't find a way to activate it.

then im not so sure why. could be what the other guy posted, he mentioned he carried his image from his alienware, so did I back from m18xr2 to p570wm to 870tm, though I uninstalled it and clean the registry, perhaps some stuff are still left over thus icon remained when i reinstalled the new driver over it.

I check quickly went over my touchpad stuff, looks like you have to access it through "mouse" properties and check the Icon box to enable icon, otherwise theres none.

On my W650KK/KJ1 , driver version is 19.5.10.125
No properties or icon, every parameter is set through the Settings app in Windows 10.

No, I don't have that extra tab on mouse settings. It's not just that icon that is missing, the synaptics settings are gone too. And I was the one that had the icon after using the windows image from my AW 18 on the P870TM1. The problem of that is the pointer had a low refresh rate or something like that which annoyed me

IIRC, there is a Synaptics app available for download in the Microsoft store. Not sure that it adds much in the way of functionality, though.

Could you please submit this issue to Clevo. It seem's to me we're all affected by this issue.

The main issue is we lost tons of advanced features, to name a few:

    • one finger vertical/horizontal scrolling
    • tornado scrolling
    • two tap to lock and drag
    • momentum
    • presition
    • more and better touchpad sensitivity
