    Hello,

I have a Clevo p150em with a nvidia 680m, I'm experiencing high temperatures when I play games and the card starts to throttle.
    Before I re-pasted, the temperatures was 90C (Around 190F i believe) and around 45C (115F) idle,
After the paste change the temperature went down a little around 82C (179F) when I play games (still throttes) and 43C (109F) idle state.
I still think its to high especially when I read online that people never goes by 70C
Everything is at stock cores, nothing is OC'ed

Any ideas what might cause the high temperatures and how to lower them? :)

Temperatures is from 5 minutes gameplay from Bioshock infinite with ultra settings

I hope you understand, English isn't my native language (no )

    Best regards,

83C is perfectly fine for a mobile GPU. It would be really hard to never pass 70C, on a desktop that would be normal but notebooks run warmer and are designed to handle it.

    as Hutsady said,they are fine.

ive just run all the futuremark benches and 3 cores peaked in 90c and im happy with that.
gaming no matter how hard i push it wont pass 84c and graphics mid 70c

when was the last time you cleaned your vents and fansout with compressed air. its recommended to do every 3-6 months.

if you really want to push your cpu to see if its throttling run intel extreme tuning which you should have loaded but if not you can find it in the monitoring thread below.

    Hi Helga. :)

Your English is fine! And your temps are fine as well. As long as you're not breaking and exceeding 90 C, your system is still safe. You can follow MrDJs suggestion to test for throttling, though.

    Hi!

Thanks for the fast reply :)
CPU temps are all fine, Im really happy with them.

Its the graphic cards im worried about ;(
I've tested bf3 for around 15 min the temps went up to 90C and the graphic card start to throttle,

I've cleaned vents with compressed air this morning so it shouldn't be clogged

I'm quite worried about the high temps and the throttle annoys me alot.

    best regards

B3 is a demanding game and i was getting high temps as well. havnt played for quite a few months so i will have a game within a hour and post up my temps to compare.

oh well, scrap that. mine is throtling again but only the cpu.
temps during game are fine but as soon as i run intel extreme after 1 minute my cpu is throtling 35% again.
thermal paste was applied again 3 weeks ago.

The 680M only temperature throttles at 90-93C (depending on model).

I had some spare time so tried out some games,
Find out that even on low settings I reach 90C easily,

I tried intel exreme tuner like you suggested, happily my CPU does not throttle ;)

Not sure why I'm getting so high temps ;(
    Room temps are around 24C~~

At this point, Helga, I'd look to the thermal compound. Sometimes it's not applied properly. Also, it's possible that the heat sink was not seated/secured properly either.

Are you using the laptop on a flat, hard surface? Preferably elevated an inch or so?

That was what i thought to, but I have checked and re-pasted, I cant tell if the heat sink is properly seated, well, its in place and it looks like it did when I first opened it,
the laptop is standing on a desk, almost elevated a inch, It should be enough but it doesn't hurt to try life it up some more :)

    regards

There is a chance a heatpipe is damaged and not working. It might be worth sending it in.

It may not be physically damaged. How long have you had this laptop in relation to how long you have had this issue? Perhaps there is a problem with the vapor in the pipe.

    I bought it late 2012,
Don't know, around a month or so, never checked the temps until recently when I got fps drops,
The computer haven't been moved a lot, it just sits there (I'm using a keyboard and mouse + another screen)

You have taken quite a few logical troubleshooting steps, so at this point, I agree with Meaker; it's probably worth sending in.

Checking for one damaged pipe would be very tricky actually because the other would still conduct heat, since it's not getting CRAZY hot I would think it is at least partially working.

Why? Can't you send it in for it to be checked?

    Hi

    Sorry for a late reply,
I have no idea what I did, but i re installed windows (due to primary HDD change) Anyways, after the installations of all the drivers I noticed that my computer is more quiet and the temps are also lowered, (well kinda)
Sometimes I hit 90c easily like I described in my first post, sometimes I'm on a stable mid 80c under load.
One thing that I noticed post-installation is that it seemed like the GPU fan was on all the time and I used the 680 to everything (even desktop) like it was a dedicated card,
Well its beyond my knowledge :p I'm just happy that its more stable then before, not perfect buy more stable.

    Edit:
Forgot to add a detail  I don't think my GPU fan spinning 100% when under load, causing the high temps
My computer don't sound half as loud as other p150em (YouTube, friend etc) under load ofc.. Any idea?

Thanks for all the help btw :)

    best regards.

    Hey Helga,

Those temps may jump if there is something physically wrong with the hardware, so do feel free to send it in for inspection before things potentially get worse.

Other than that, best regards and I hope you enjoy the laptop. :)

if this happens after a demanding session of gaming then this could be a glitch that a lot of us p150em owners suffer with.
all you need to do is open nvidia inspector for a few seconds and then close it and the fans will go back to low revs.
clevo were informed of this last year but still no fix yet.

Maybe I'll do the same. My 680M on the P150EM hits 90C pretty easily right now.
