i have a Clevo p150hm (Sager NP8150) that came with an HD6990m ati card, but the card got fried...

my Question is : will an Nvidia card work in my laptop (as it originally had an ATI)?

*i know that it should be a Clevo branded Nvidia gtx460 - gtx680

    thanks

it should, just make sure that the heatsink is compatible with the nvidia card ure planning to get. if in doubt, get a whole upgrade kit for your machine including a heatsink :)

Hi, as far as I can remember, there were different BIOS versions for AMD and Nvidia based p150hm's.
Or was it the EC's that were different... there was definitely something along these lines. Around the time I owned that p150hm myself with AMD card, there were people doing that switch.

On a related note, the new owner of my p150hm reported back a few months after buying it from me, that the card died on him also :S

P.S. Im still stalking you, jaybee. Just letting you know.

and i am still stalking a card for my ****ty laptop, i am asking this cause i got a gtx485 (Clevo branded and pulled from a p150hm) but it shows no screen like the dead 6990m!
i cant afford a 6990m from clevo or other resellers cause they are just overpriced.

    thanks

You can put in max gtx 680m but must be compatible with vbios ;) We have those in stock.

lol, u guys not as active as usual on the forums atm, real life gettin in the way...

in any case, those revisions u mentioned were only for the p170hm, not for the p150hm, so the op should be fine either way :)

@masamra: i wouldnt get a 6990M even for a good price, theyre known to die on you pretty quickly! what about the 485m u got, did u sort that out? sounds like the card was DOA...
as CEG mentioned, a 680m would be a nice option and also pretty much the fastest card u can get for your machine. just make sure they provide u with the correct vbios, heatsink and also a compatible driver in order for you to have an all inclusive no worries package :)

well, the nvidia gtx485m that i got from ebay then returned it, behaved exactly like the dead 6990m (boot but no screen at all).

i got an offer now for a gtx560m that was pulled from a clevo p150hm, but has heat issues when pressured!, its a good deal for $50, and all i want is to make the laptop run so i can sell as a runing one(of course with the card heat issue declared). i contacted the guy to flash a p150hm vbios in the card, but he answers with that it was pulled from the same laptop so no flashing is required?

    thanks guys for helping me.

if its indeed pulled off a p150hm, then u neednt worry about a vbios flash. just make sure your system bios and ec are updated to the latest versions :) 50 bucks is a steal! whats the deal with "high temps under pressure"? actual pressure or overclocking pressure? :D

he said something about the card may need underclock, and under long games sessions it becomes hot!

well that sounds like it could easily be dealt with a good thermal paste job and proper thermal pad placements :) add to that a thorough dusting of your internals and propping up the machine for improved airflow and u should be good to go even for longer gaming sessions :)

With ICD or GC Extreme and 5w/mk Phobya Thermal Pads temps shouldn't be higher then mid 70's under full load.

AND 50 bucks for a 560m is very good indeed!

Just a note, if you have a look at my thread *here*, you'll note that I've got one 680M too many since I can't use any in my P170HM. I'm just trying to recoup my cost ($400). It should be appropriately flashed once I get it back from Malibal. Let me know if you're interested.
