    Hey :)b

    My GFX just broke (hd6990m)

I was playing a game when all of a sudden the screen turns black, i reboot and rejoins the game. After about 30 sec my screen is all messed up. showing one half right, and the other half wrong on the screen. Then it goes black again. I reboot, and when the windows logo finish loading it just turn black. I boot up in safe mode and deletes my gtx drivers, this helps. But when i reinstall them the problem occur again. i tryed getting older versions but its the same outcome. Ive tryed a fresh install of OS (w7) but as soon as i reboot after installing a Gfx driver

So.. My question to you guys is that, what possibilites do i have when thinking of replacing the card with the same or even a better one? im not interessted in spending over 400 $ and it have to be from EU. (tax etc)

Ive been looking at this card
    New NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB DDR5 MXM 3 0 Type B for Clevo Alienware | eBay

But will it work in my Clevo p150hm ?

The GTX 7 series is not compatible as a whole. The 7970M with HM vbios or blind flashed with the correct vbios would be the best bang for the $.

Well the 765m is about the same as your card while the 7970M is around twice as fast.

You GPU might not be dead. I had the same issue pop up the other day, similar timing, similar setup (Mines a 170hm with a 6990, also from Malibal). I pulled my hair out for a day or two with system restores and drivers and finally got it working again. Some drivers were just black screens, some were blue with a mouse but no login, etc.

The 6990M drivers available on the Clevo website ended up being the ones that worked for me. All other versions, including past versions that had worked, had the same issue after the login screen.

Have you tried updating by installing over the top of the factory drivers?

The main symptom of 6990m failure, at least in my experience, has been artifacts on the screen when POSTing. Anything limited to within Windows is more likely driver-related.

Yes a bad gpu should artifact everywhere with the exception of optimus/enduro which is obviously not used in the hm series.

Most of the failure of the 6990M have the screen reverse split with artifacts, such as mine. I would just bake the card and in the mean time look for a replacement. Eventually you won't be able to get into safe mode. It look mine about 2 weeks since the first artifact to finally go belly up.
