I have a Malibal version of the p151hm, and recently the gpu fan has begun to constantly operate at full blast. I've seen lots of threads suggesting that this is because it just heats up, or there is a problem with the thermal paste, but in my case I don't think this is the problem. According to speed fan, my system thinks the gpu is at 60 to 90c, while doing nothing and while playing graphically simple games like world of warcraft. Meanwhile, the actual computer is resting on a cooling pad, and is in fact cool to the touch. Any ideas whats going wrong?

I think the temp readings are accurate. Remember that it is the highest temperature read (at the core and/or memory), whereas your system's average and case temperature is going to be lower (especially since your cooling fan is moving cool air through and around the whole system). So the system may still feel relatively "cool".

Anyway, what are the exact idle temps of your system? Are you on a high performance power plan? Idle temps are generally higher in this plan because the CPU won't reduce its voltage as much. Also, I know that my system is not the same, but whenever it is on high performance, the fans do not kick in until the temperatures reach about 65+ C. My idle temps are also sometimes about 50-55 C vs. 40-45 C if I'm in balanced or power saver.

I have a NP8150, it still idles under 40c, runs under 90c under load. I clean it out every month. When was the last time you blew out everything? Cleaned the vents, blew the dust bunnies out from the internals? If recently, then time to repaste. If not, time to clean out the internals.

unless you are using your lappy sitting in an oven then the fans should not go full blast when you first turn your lappy on.
if its after doing something demanding like playing a game and then closing the game but the fans still stay on full this is a known glitch.
easiest way to stop this is to open a temperature monitoring software and then close it.

what is your computer spec? i use nvidia inspector and this works every time but you can also use 3dmark11 or vantage which ive heard also stops the fans.
