    Clevo p775, i5 8600k, gtx 1080, 330watt OC, possible power throttling?

    Greetings peeps,

    I have recently upgraded my p775-dm3g with an i5 8600k to upgrade finally form the i7 6700k ( it was a long process for me but i got the cpu to run finally!) thanks to the modified bios by dsanke. I also have the tdp of my gpu increased to 210 watt at 100% and slider going all the way to 115% of that value . I keep it at 95 for my use case. I had realized, that i might be getting power throttled however , since to my amazement the cpu , only ever reaches 55 watts of power ( as shown in riva tuner service in msi afterburner) in a gaming workload, and the gpu seems to be getting more juice at the expense of the cpu. The power draw of the gpu at tdp limit i set should be around 200-205 watt at around 1940 mhz core, which leaves plenty of room for the cpu, or so i had thought. But to test this, i lowered the power limit to 70%, and i was amazed to see the cpu hit 4.5ghz ( which i considered a minor oc on the i5 8600k) and draw 67-72 watts of power. o it indeed does seem like the 330watt power brick is not enough to run the system at full. now i have the cpu running at 4.1 and the gpu at 90% power limit with it hitting 1901mhz, which is decent enough for most use cases, but inability to tap into the full power of my components bugs me incredibly.
    I have researched a bit and came across the fact, that some clevo laptops come iwth 2 330watt power supplies. i dont have the cash however to buy a second brick, as i cant afford to spend more than 70 usd now,

    So i thought to myself, why cant i get the same splitter as seen on the picture attached,
    and buy a cheap 40-90 watt ac/dc adapter to add some juice to the system to keep its needs satiated? i know it seems like a crazy ghetto method, but i am not seeing any problems with it so far :p

    From what I know of how the joiner works, that may be problematic

    If there's a voltage difference between the output of the two power supplies, the load will be disproportionately based on the lower supplying voltage of the two.

    If the cheaper weaker smaller PSU suffers droop under load, this will cause more load on it, more vdroop, etc etc until it either shuts itself off by tripping OCP, or magic smokes if it doesn't have any protection as you may expect from dodgy Chinese PSUs.

    This happened to me when an old >4yr old 330w brick started wearing out. It could draw (from wall) over 300W on its own just fine, but join it and bench the P870DM at 500-550W, it would get much, much hotter than the other one and cut out a couple times when extremely hot. Swapped it out for a newer one and no problems.

    hmm so id have to pick the voltage accordingly/ so if this is also 19 v https://www.trcelectronics.com/View/Mean-Well/GSM90A19-P1M.shtml could i techincally splice in the right connector and join it with the 330w psu?
    or if ihad to make sure, i could order two of those uncorded 200 watt LED psus and put them intandem to power the laptop

    actually i might use just one of them here is a rather cheap psu i could use to power the laptop https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dapenk-Alu...power+supply&qid=1554634030&s=gateway&sr=8-55 it has 600watt output so i dobut it would get saturated easily. however it is 24 volts instead of 19.5 of the liteon, bu that shouldnt be too much of an issue

    I think a smoking pile of $500 motherboard ( minimum cost of repair) is much more than the cost of the AC-200 joiner and a 330W Delta (that Clevo has supplied with their laptops for years) ought to be a consideration in what you consider "value".

    I searched quickly and found replacement 330W deltas (e.g. AD330W) listed on amazon for 90USD and on ebay for 110USD so really, for the extra cost, if I were you I'd keep that lower power limit and undervolt the GPU while you found the extra $50-100 and bought the right stuff. I know some resellers absolutely gouge on parts like this *cough*eurocom*cough* but they are not all that bad. Metabox for example charged me AUD$40 ($25USD) for a joiner a couple of years ago

    The chinese PSU would probably need a case and wiring and the 4 pin barrel connector as well, price them up too if you don't have them already

    You must use reasonably balanced (same rated wattage) supplies with the splitter.
