Hello people,
Back in March I did a windows reset (where it keeps some files etc) due to getting in a loop with a windows update. After which, I installed most drivers back to normal, however I started to get artifacts (I think, can attach pictures if needed). Have tried specific drivers sent from HID for my model to no avail.
One thing I thought of (while hoping the gpu isnt busted needing replacement) is whether the fan profile got lost in the reset. I reinstalled control centre (which i didnt reinstall after reset) and noted a change. Before the whole loop fiasco, control centre was partially locked out - i couldnt change the fan speed at all as it was set to the custom fan profile.
However, now i can change the profile via control centre? This makes me think I did lose the custom fan profile from Prema? which is now causing overheating issues (I hope)
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Do you have issues if you force the fans to max with FN + 1 (not F1)
-
No issues with forcing it to 100% fans with that function. And my brief chat with HID support they seemed to gloss over the fan profile bussiness. I am sure though that the fan profile they installed was custom and locked out (from bios?) the ability for CC to change it

Might be worth a BIOS/EC update/reflash.

In BIOS, there is an option to enable/disable custom fan settings
You might want to check Obsidian fan control tool if you really want to dial in your fan settings profile -
Gpu rests at 90-91 under max fans. But my CPU is going extremely high. HW monitor shows peaks of 95-99 for a few seconds on 3 of the 6 cores. Which is making me believe i need to redo the thermal paste. Which hopefully will drop temps down to high 80s to low 90s.
If I didnt have high temps I would think it might be a memory issue -

That's pretty high temps for max fans.

Yep, hoping the repaste will drop it a lot. The other 3 cores are 83-88 max (perfectly fine for the laptop & ambient temp). GPU is my worry. Its always been around 90C since i got it years ago, but was told that was okay. I believe I am going to need to replace it soon but trying to hold that off as much as i can

Give Cinebench R20 a run just to see where you truly stand with your CPU and maybe TimeSpy for the GPU. Run HWInfo/Monitor and set fans to max while running. -
Was a delidded 8700k. From what I read desktop pcs (delidded) were getting high 70s under load. So I thoughtt 80s -90s would be good for a laptop (given airflow and poorer coolers)
When I get a chance I shall run them both and report back.

3.7Ghz is the base clock before turbo.
-
HW monitor disagress tho, so i think it was just the app saying the 8700k stock speed instead of the current level

Could well be if another app is showing the correct speeds.
