These cards are known for being horribly unreliable. The only option you should consider is original MSI design: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/bxQAAOSwLBNfNmDQ/s-l1600.jpg
Sadly, they as costly as they are reliable. However, you should keep in mind, that VRM cooling in P870DM is a joke and 70°C on graphics core translates to 110-120°C on the VRM.
GTX1060 is much safer option if you don't want to modify cooling, but there is not much information about different versions of those.

Aaaand one last thing - there are plenty of topics about such upgrade, you just need to use "search" button...

Thanks for the answer, I know about Eurocom version that you mentioned.
But the question is about any other way of upgrade ! And there is no info about it on techinferno overlockers and notebookcheck forums.

I am in the midst of installing an MSI GT72 in my DMG as I write. I picked mine up for 375GBP.

I am trying to search the forums and get it working properly but the information is a bit hard to find at the moment. I'll let you know as soon as I get it working properly. I will be ordering the dual heatsink and modifying for the card too.

I will admit to not being as experienced or knowledgeable as a lot of people on here, however, the 980mx isn't a common card to use and will take some work to get working. the 980m is an ok card and will play most modern games at medium settings still, quite happily. I have just finished off getting my 1070 card installed and the difference is huge. I have installed this card https://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-GT72-NVIDIA-GTX-1070-8GB-VRAM-Mobile-MXM-Graphics-Card-MS-1W0V1-TESTED/254694893540?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 and it didn't take much work.

The difference is huge though and the 1070 is the best card you can fit without starting to need wiring mods.

Chinese cards are rubbish, you are far better off getting a second hand top quality brand of card than fitting those. I bought a 980m from China, the first one didn't work, had to be sent back, the second on lasted 2 years of light gaming and started blowing resistors.

That card does require the extra power cable.

Without mods, the MSI 1070 and the 200W Clevo 980 are the best options. Chinese 1060s and 1070s are garbage, the 980M has a garbage VRM if you want to overclock (unless you modify it). The smaller Clevo 980 (MX) will also work, and I believe you can use them in SLI, but don't expect to overclock much as they will run hot. It should fit the standard heatsink without much hassle if I remember right.

Yes, these cards(1060) do not last long.
My GTX1080 is really robust and durable. It is a QA chip that is even a bit better than a normal GTX1080 :)
Let me know if YOU want to have the card :)

Depends on how much you want to overclock the 980M, compared to the 3080 for example it has a lot of headroom on the stock VRM :p
