As i posted i got hold of a new Clevo with an 8800-GTX just before Christmas. It arrived in a standard box (from clevo) with the stats on the side indicating what it shipped with *basically graphics card and such, no CPU, HDD or RAM*. I checked the manual, 8800GTX is listed in there. Great!
So you would think. Standby does not work.Screen stays black and you cannot resume unless you hard reset it. Clevo sent out a machine to Evesham without the motherboard update and included an 8800GTX... and didnt tell them? As far as i was aware this issue was fixed with a motherboard revision so new notebooks wouldnt have this issue. Imagine my surprise to find out mine does not work.
The only way to get the thing out of standby is a hard reset.
EDIT: Almost forgot. I have been getting a stange issue, missed keypresses. I looked around and not found much information, but what i did find seemed to indicate a problem with "older" Clevo's of the same model. I'm rather confused.

Maybe a BIOS revision would solve the problem. or possibly the OS, what is your OS?
-
I remember Justin stating you could look at your mobo and see what version you have. Can you open up your laptop and see what version it is?
-
Vista Ultimate, and no i cannot open it or ill void the warrenty. I guess i can check under the notebook and see if there are any labels with serials ect to see if its a newer revision than current clevos but i have nothing to compare it too.
-
), it doesn't seem to be the case that opening the warranty to check on your mobo revision would void your warranty.
-
When I asked SAGER if I would void my warranty if I opened the back, they said no. I had to move the GPU fan.
Are you contemplating returning it? -
That is totally odd. So you pretty much have the 5791. Curious thing though, since everything else works except standby, noticing your other thread...
-
Do yo have TPM???
If you do, then you have a 5791. 5792 does not have a TPM. -
No, no TPM. And yes im considering asking for a replacement.... and i dont want them to have any reasons to decline. Im not fully aware of their policy. I will check my serials and bios version and report back on here.
EDIT:
I have noticed that the left side of the keyboard (starting at the Enter Key) seems to felx more than it should. I didnt notice this at first because ive not had a whole lot of time, anyway this could be the reson for the missed keys but it seems pretty coincidental that there is an issue EXACTLY like this on some clevo notebooks.
Anyway when i contacted them they wanted me to send it back to them so they could look at the keyboard (they said it might have been knocked out of place but the clips and everything are in place and look ok. I'm asking for a replacement unit because its basically a week old *just over* and when i contacted them i was within their 7 day "returns window", but since its the holidays they have been closed. -
Keep us informed
-
Just looked under the notebook for a serial number,
NKM570RU7L00043
The BIOS version is 1.00.07E, BIOS Release date is 11/23/2007 (3 days after NVIDIA announced the 8800M.)
Im in contact with Evesham about it, so far they just suggested currupt S3 state, and that i should send the notebook back to their workshop so they can test out the keyboard issue. However im going to insist on a replacement, since its basically brand new. I don't want a fixed notebook less than a week after i bought it, i mean really Quality Control should matter! -
Ok, update. Standby is working. I am not sure what happened when i tried it previously, but it appears it never actually got to the full standby state.
The last times i tried it, the screen went black and the system seemed to stop reacting. Moving the mouse and pressing buttons made the HDD activity light start moving but that was it. Hard reset to get it working again.
I just tried it again now, and it actually shut itself off. Then i moved the mouse and it came back on! Which is great! So i retract my statement from before, it seems Clevo have indeed shipped a revised version.
Now if only my keyboard issue didnt exist id be totally happy. Id live with it if it was a minor thing, but the missing of keypresses is seriously doing my head in. I'm at least 50% slower typing on my notebook because i have to keep shifting back to enter a key that didnt appear... the flex on the right side does not fill me with confidence either. -
Well at least you have the "correct" computer. My computer takes a little while to go into standby also. Enjoy the computer
-
Ditto on the standby time. Takes a little while to go into standby. Ever since I found out that the 8800M GTX is not fully compatible with my system , I`ve been using standby more than ever ...
I've been bugging everyone...if you will still have the laptop for a few days, mind benchmarking some games? like UT3 or Crysis ...even if it`s just demos... -
Right well, to my amazement the keyboard issue seems to have resolved itself. I must admit i moved the clips in the keyboard with a screwdriver to see if it indeed was slipping or something but it seemed to be in there correctly.
I also discovered that the "Touch Pad" does not stay disabled. It seems i have to press the function KEY and disable it each time the system is turned on, im wondering if this is perhaps a major cause of my issue since when typing and resting your hands on the keyboard, your palm can drift over the touchpad slightly.....
Anyway, with that all seems well.. I saw another thread on here about the "keyboard flex" and it seems its not a fault, and is actually a design issue with that Clevo notebook. So problem solved i guess.
Eleron, well im not sure what to say but its a big improvement from the 8700 equipped M1730 i returned to DELL in november.
I can run UT3 at Max Detail @ 1920x1200.... im sure i could turn AA on but ive not tried it simply because i havent felt the need. I will though. Crysis shows a 200% improvement over how it ran on the 8700 too. It's actually plauyable and looks nice.
I have installed "Counter Strike Source" and run it at 1920x1200, with 4x AA and 6x AF and its running flawless. All settings in game on high. -
just to correct somone the 5791 does NOT HAVE TPM either
-
The only Sager that has TPM is the 5790 (in the 579x line).
-
Exactly, my 5791 doesn`t have it either.
One thing to note , ROB,we need actual # of fps....and settings to see what and which.
I`m curious as to how you`ve played crysis, cause UT3 seems awesome from your details. -
Ok im just now sure how best to get those, i will look around.
I take back my statement about Counter-Strike Source btw. It runs flawless at 1920x1200 qwith 16x CSAA? and 16x AF. Basically overkill, and i know from experience that the 8700 struggled with HL2: Lost Coast way below 1920x1200 without any AA or AF.
I will try and get some benchmarks in FPS.
Clevo pulled a fast-one?
