So I came across this laptop
EUROCOM Configuration
Its based on the clevo w230ss but this is the first time I've seen this model with a 4k display, and it doesn't seem to be significantly more expensive than the standard 1080p model. It is sold by Eurocom, which I've heard some rather sketchy things about, but I thought I would put this out here and see what everyone thinks.

An i7 4940MX CPU with an 1800p 13.3" display... powered by a GTX 860M? WOT? WOT????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I don't know about anybody else, but as far as I am concerned that is a train wreck waiting to happen.
It's not a 4K model though, but it's pretty close I'll admit that. But such a high density in such a small screen? And such a hot CPU without the room to cool it? Train wreck. Ain't saying it's IMPOSSIBLE to be done, but I would stay far far away, deep in space, to a galaxy I'll go away from that thing. -
IT's ok. It's the same 4K screen in all 13.3 inch laptops on the market, made by Sharp.

1800p is great, for games you can drop to 1600x900 which the 860m should have some staying power at.
-
That's essentially the last Clevo (by screen size) that would need that high a resolution! Funny how the smallest laptop is being offered with a great screen, while the mainstream ones lost their 95% NTSC gamut upgrade option.

Interestingly enough, NONE of the Clevo sellers in the UK are offering the 3200x1800 screen, only the 1080P IPS panel.
Admittedly I would prefer the 1080P panel because Windows is terrible at scaling, but the downside is no lower resolution without pixel blurring (whereas the 3200x1800 screen can go to 1600x900 without uneven pixels). -
The 3200x1800 are just in short supply atm (as is the W230SS in general).
-
We have had the QHD+ display listed for quite a while now on all websites, but with an ETA marked as mid July. This is becase of the short supply of the panel as Prema mentioned. This isn't a stock issue with any particular company which uses the W230SS chassis; rather a stock issue at source - therefore it would be prudent to check specific availability and ETA information.
At first glance the resolution may seem a little overkill, but as I posted earlier in the year it is an great display. We have several running with the QHD+ panel and gaming at say 1600x900 really does look amazing - in fact as good as running at FHD res. Plus, you get a double bonus in the P304 over the P303 of both a 30%+ game performance increase with the 860M over the 765M and, if you wish, another big jump in performance with the option to down-res games to HD+ -
The 1600x900 would be nice for gaming, but not at the cost of waiting several months, considering my existing machine is pretty much dead now. Can't have the best of both worlds it seems. -
Maybe I should have waited a few months. I just got the EUROCOM M3 with a 1920x1080 display... ah well, still a good system.
-
Maybe in the future you will get a QHD / UHD 17.3 inch laptop. Once you do I will PM/email you ASAP.

Running a 3200x1800 panel at 1600x900 will look like native 1600x900, it won't be as sharp as 1080p however.
-
In 13 inch flavor the pixel density would make sure it's sharp. My only concern is that's a pentile screen...once it comes in non-pentile IPS matte UHD flavor, I am sold.

For that matter, I have a quick question: how's Eurocom's quality and support?

If/when they come out I may buy one and swap it just to see what it's all about. But with issues with Windows scaling options, app compatability, etc I don't know if it's such a wise choice at the moment, not to mention being glossy (eww).

I'd personally take the 3200x1800 screen and run it at 1600x900 most of the time lol unless scaling gets perfected.
-
How much would battery life be affected if the laptop is regularly run at 1800p? Would i drastically lower the battery life?
-
Well I managed to get around 4 hours gaming out of mine (never changed from the desktop resolution of 1080p) so yeah, certainly better than I was expecting.

I'd say 20-30 mins less.
-
We'll be posting some concrete numbers and more user friendly information on the panel option shortly, currently BF4 testing
