If I recall correctly the PM55 chipset for our notebooks was never designed to handle WinXP. At least that's what I was told from XoticPC when I asked about it. What about VM mode with W7 Pro? I've ran that with some success. Just need to unlock the 512MB RAM restriction to have it run better. :)

i dont think you will find the latest drivers for xp as nvidia stopped updating them when windows 7 was released.

you can find xp drivers HERE but these are for the older m860tu/np8660 so i dont know if they will work.
anyone else give advice on this.

So if I try to install XP, I always get a bluescreen when the installation initializes.
Does AHCI in the BIOS has to set to something else? I can not change it.

I have successfully installed windows xp on my laptop. I didn't really bother trying to get every driver for every component, but the main devices have drivers installed. As for the pm55 chipset, i had no problem installing the drivers for that in xp. I too got the BSODs when trying to install xp, but then i made a slipstreamed xp disc with sata drivers and i switched the mode from ahci to the other option which happened to be raid, but you don't have to use the raid. Anyway after doing that i had no problem installing xp.

The ability of choosing RAID has being deleted in the new W860 BIOS. There is no point for it, it is not a W870.
Which drivers are missing? Are you using x64?
So it would be the same as pressing F6 and loading the drivers from whatever? I did not go this way because I thought I would get a message from the wizard that there are no HDDs installed.

You can do the F6 driver install method if you want, the drivers you need for that are here. The other option is to slipstream those same drivers into an xp install disk using nlite. This way you can also customize other parts of the OS.

It was xp 32-bit and it was purely for experimental purposes, so I didn't bother looking for all the appropriate drivers. And yes I understand that this thread is about the w860, I was merely sharing my experience; on that note, what other option is there other than ahci on the w860?

Many Thanks! I tried the nlite method in the past but there were some errors after installation had finished in every attempt so I would use the floppy method.
If anybody needs the x64 drivers, there are here

I have no more any other AHCI option to choose from.

Btw, since I updated, the overclocking option has gone, too?

the chipset software can be installed after windows. The only driver that needs slipstreaming is the AHCI (SATA) driver so that it recognises the hard drive.
