There are two mini displayport ports on the back, so it'll definitely work. There's also 2 usb type c ports on the right side for headsets that use those.

Dream Machines used to be a Prema partner, but no longer are for some reason.

Because of that, there are currently no shops in the EU that offer the Clevo X170KM-G with the Premamod BIOS. :(

You can still get the Premamod BIOS by buying from a partner shop here in the US, or you can ask Prema himself after buying a Clevo X170KM-G from a local shop.

It does not. The X170KM-G with 11th gen Rocket Lake CPUs do though.

The X170SM-G with 10th gen Comet Lake CPUs supports 3 NVME m.2 drives and 1 SATA m.2 drive.

It's down to where the PCI-E lanes are wired from. The original x170 they were all from the chipset (Intel did not leave much of a choice) the new one there are 4x lanes from the CPU available.

Which processor better for a gaming(primary) in 4k UHD and adobe premiere pro? i9 10900 or i9 11900k. For a longer period of time. I Think about 10 cores for a future games.

Since we don't have official benchmarks for the i9 11900K yet, we can't definitively answer that question yet.

Rumor has it that the performance difference is a wash. The 10900K wins sometimes in games, and the 11900K wins sometimes in games. The 11900K does have significantly higher minimum framerates (1% lows) however according to preliminary tests.

Considering that Intel's Alder Lake CPUs are supposed to be released in September, I'd strongly recommend skipping Rocket Lake and waiting for Alder Lake.

Yeah I know you can play the waiting game forever, but if you wait just 6 months, you'll get another 20% IPC increase plus a significant improvement in power efficiency. Normally you have to wait multiple years to get an increase like that.

It will be very interesting to see how long it takes until the first laptop with this socket can be purchased.
My guess is not earlier than 2022 so we would be looking at more of a 10+ month wait.

The main issue is the memory bus width with the larger chips. Then you put cooling on top of that.

Nobody can help you with that decision. There is always something better over the horizon but the jury is still out as to whether it will be Alder lake or something else that you will want at the end of the year.

I would personally have recommended to wait for Alder Lake, but as 1610ftw said, there is always something new coming out. The best hardware will always be demoted to second tier or worse in the future. That's the nature of technological progress.

Don't feel bad if your hardware is no longer state of the art a year from now. If the hardware you got is significantly better than what you had before, then it's worth it. What matters most is how long the hardware will last you.

For example, I got the Alienware Ranger (Alienware 17 R1/Alienware M17X R5) in my signature a few months after Skylake was released. Although the Haswell CPU in my Ranger was already 2 generations behind when I got it, it can still handle any of my workloads to this day. Although I probably won't be able to achieve 120 fps with it in newer open world games that can effectively utilize 8 CPU cores, even with a powerful enough GPU, it's had a very good run.

In short, buy what you need when you need it, and don't worry about better hardware coming out the next year. You can play the waiting game forever. Get hardware that will last you a good long while so it's a good value. Just because the hardware becomes obsolete to the market doesn't mean it'll become obsolete to you as well.

With Alder lake we will get new socket 1700 who probably will last minimum 2 gen. Some say 3. We get DDR5 and PCIe 5.0

New socket means you can upgrade if Clevo let you do that. And @Prema is still around and can make his magic. Socket 1200, DDR4 and PCIe 4.0 is yesterdays tech. And already near its end of life. Only a few months away.

If I was sure that things will go that way I would not have bought the KM-G, things to consider:

Even if it comes in the next Clevo DTR the socket 1700 may be delayed until next year, especially in the Clevo. In fact I would be surprised about a Clevo DTR with a new platform being released so soon.

The other scenario is that it may never come because of:
    MXM dying out
Clevo not releasing this kind of modular product anymore
Clevo releasing a DTR with AMD instead of Intel chipset

So hard to give any advice if people are looking for something with a certain urgency.

IF Clevo releases a worthy and notably superior successor with @Prema working his magic I will be very happy and unfortunately for my wallet tempted to upgrade.

I have also looked into buying x170, as I need to replace my 11 years old Clevo W870cu (keyboard stops working about every hour and laptop needs to be unplugged from power to fix it. It's likely a motherboard issue). I want again a machine that will last 10 years. Weight is not a huge problem as it would be moved around mostly in the house.

At present x170 is only offered with Ultra-HD display with meager 60Hz (newer 120Hz version of that display exists, but is not on offer). Intel Core i9-11900K is still 14nm and with Alder lake round the corner it's worth to wait. PCIe 5.0 for nvme drives would be amazing. I would even welcome Ryzen CPU in laptop but AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with only PCIe 3.0 is a big joke. For me it will most likely be choice between MSI GT76 Titan or Clevo X170 - whoever is faster to roll out Alder lake based laptop.

If you want to overclock, go for the i7 11700KF.

If you want good stock performance and don't want to do any tweaking, go for the i9 11900F.

In either case, get the i7 11700KF if it costs less.

The i7 11700KF may be able to do 5.2 GHz on all cores.

Remember the turbo is just one or two core boost.

After some research I wanted to try a system with premabios. I stayed with gen 10 but a 3xxx graphics card. I ordered from HIDevolution based on them being a prema partner and decent reviews from customers. I’m looking forward to joining the X170KM-G owners group.

Are you saying that the PCI-E lanes are all wired from the chipset on the SM-G, but they are all wired from the CPU on the KM-G ?

I see the distinction now, Full HD vs Ultra-HD.

HIDevolution lists a few versions of the X170 with a UHD panel but then don't bother listing the refresh rates. I would guess they are the 60hz panels like on the Clevo website.

I think that the X170 Thunderbolt 3 port is not full 40 gbps spec speed. It is half spec which is 20 gbps. Not that it matters that much to me.

For the cost of this device, it would be nice if it came equipped standard with a full spec thunderbolt port and a full 1080p video camera instead of the 720 camera that it comes with. And the 240hz panel also.

Maybe they split bandwidth between the two ports.

Agreed that it should be faster but I guess the X170 is not really a device you would use with an eGPU which is the only application where one would regularly need more than 20 gbps.

There are 4x extra lanes that come from the CPU that are wired to the first m.2 slot on the new machine on the new machine because the 11th gen has these.

Just like the Ryzen desktop boards have had for some time.

Funny though, thunderbolt 3 half spec which is thunderbolt 2 speed.
So the only difference is the port type being a USB type-C instead of a Thunderbolt 2 Mini DisplayPort connector.

I wonder what other applications that thunderbolt 3 USB type-C port could be used for.
