    well u shouldnt have to worry about the drivers tho, since the X7200 doesnt have switchable graphics anyways right? so it should just be plug n play without any of the enduro-related issues reported by the EM users here :)

    jaybee you can't be serious. Maybe you didn't experience yet how AMD manages to amaze you with new problems everytimes they release a new driver to fix something that shouldn't have occured in the first time (like idle clock issues in the 12.4 WHQL).
    Even without the switchable graphics stuff I have encountered so many problems with my Crossfire 6970M setup (which really is old enough to have "matured drivers", no?) that I am fed up enough to be willing to pay half of the notebooks value again to upgrade to 680M's, even though I just bought it last fall.

    His whole post was:
    Thats german for "Bad news, shows no reaction. I'm trying to get the open BIOS which was released March 2010 as the first X7200 Sample."
    Agree 100%. They just can't drop the support for a product after 2 years when they advertise it as "fully ugrade- and customizeable". They will loose a lot of customers mid- to long term, like you and me.

    I can only think of this company as having some unproductive/incompetent employees, as clearly at least 1 guy (the hardwareluxx rep) is willing and trying to test the 680M.

    Haha no, I wasn't referring to you lol! Meant to rant at the one.de Email support, as they misinformed me too (opening post) :p
    *Edit: Yeah the quotation does not include your quotation, so it reads like I was talking about you as "the company", will change that.

    On a side note, we still need someone to prove this thread title wrong *hint hint* :D

    It's kind of given that they will lose a lot of loyal customers because of this. I can see why they do it, they make money from selling laptops shells.

    I have seen other resellers say upgrading the P170HM with the GTX680M was physically impossible. I guess the one I installed in mine was a miracle then. It appears many are simply misinformed or just make assumptions. I don't know which reseller said the following but it was mentioned on an Australia forum.

    The heatsink of the GTX 485M will work fine with the 680M, the layout is almost completely the same other than you needing to arrange a few thermal pads differently.

    I would be very surprised if it didn't work in the x7200.

    My Bios does not recognise the 680M so the first four digits of the Hardware ID are '0000', this means that modded Drivers will probably always be needed.

    However, I see that as minor given the performance increase and cool temps (38C idle, 73C max). I got mine from RJTech with the heatsink.

    Edit: Oh, someone said the x7200 GTX 485M heatsinks are different to the ones used in the P170HM.

    I know that one.de are wrong, if i post the answer i receive by email it 's because they post on a forum that they will test the card on the x7200.
    On the other hand they said : "we are sorry to say that our notebooks don't have any upgrade kits."

    I am fed up about clevo and the integrators who have sold "fully upgradable gaming laptop" and one year later have said "sorry your computer is EOF, so no more support"

    "this means that modded Drivers will probably always be needed." We can live with that but for me it's not a minor issue.

    Sad update.

    The one.de Support stated (roughly translated):

    X7200 @ latest Sager-BIOS
    12GB RAM
    i7-990X
    GTX 680M provided by P170EM

    > starts without problems
    > shows "nVIDIA VGA" in BIOS
    > does not recognize the VGA in Windows
    > manual driver installation impossible zu (304.7er Beta / 30x.xx directly from Clevo for GTX 680M)
    > automatic neither

    He does not seem to have tried it with the previously mentioned open BIOS though.

    Ok, now at this time we have no ID! But when we have one we can modify that! Or the Bios sending no Id (we dont have a bios X7200 and the GTX 680M), then the ID is 0000! And that is an ID! I´m sure, the x7200 works with the 680M! My Sample for a driver installation!

    Adding this Strings--

    [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]

    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.7200.1558% = Section063, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_72001558
    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558% = Section063, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558

    [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1]

    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.7200.1558% = Section073, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_72001558
    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558% = Section073, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558

    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.7200.1558% = Section074, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_72001558
    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558% = Section074, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558

    [Strings]
    DiskID1 = "NVIDIA Windows Vista / 7 / 8 (64 bit) Driver Library Installation Disk 1"
    NVIDIA = "NVIDIA"
    NVIDIA_A = "NVIDIA"

    NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.7200.1558 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M "

    When I installed my GTX 680m into my P170HM, the Bios does not recognise it (empty) and no Drivers would install until they were modified.

    My hardware ID (in device manager) began with 0000 due to this exact issue. I believe the X7200 has a similar issue but it seems to be in reverse so once you find out the ID then it may install. My full ID was 11A0.0000.1558

    Since the standard VGA Drivers were able to install, this is very promising for X7200 users.

    Well now it seems the One.de rep stopped testing the 680M in the X7200 as he had to give the 680M off for 2 weeks, and I reckon he won't bother testing it further... I lost my hope by now and I (and many others) will probably never touch any Clevo product again since the praised support gets dropped after only 2 years.

    That doesn´t sound good :(.

    Now I am thinking of these two things:
    a) use my laptop the way it is and then go for Alienware maybe in 6-12 months... (don´t like the design, that´s the bad...)
    b) get a GTX 680m and try for myself, and hope that some "crazy" people out there will try to help to get this thing to work.
    If it will not work, I could sell the GTX 680m and lose maybe 100-200 Euro, but since this is a hobby, I maybe just do it ;).

    What would bother me is this: If it will work, the resellers and Co. will sell some more GTX 680m and didn´t do anything for it...
    Really a very short view from them to decide to NOT help and test GTX 680m, because they will lose some customers like me. But nevermind ;).

    We will be more than happy to test out 680m's in a X7200 if someone wants to volunteer it for a few days. We don't think these beasts are EoL even if other places do :)

    Am I getting this right, you would test but you don´t have any X7200 to test it?
    I would do it and send you mine, but since I live in Germany, that would be a little bit too far :(.

    I hope there are some others in the United States or Canada willing to do it, that would be great! :)

    It may be that the 680m indeed works in the x7200 motherboard, single and SLI,what seems to be now the problem is that there is no proper cooler/heatsink that will 100% fit, as the ones from the 485m/580m, which i thought were perfect fit, actually don#t fit as perfect as i expected.
    One has to remember that the 7970m was the first time demoed on an x7200 laptop, in CF, with AVP2 game. Perhaps the 7970m are perfect fit, and made with the thought of working in a x7200, wich the 680m clearly wasn't.

    Maybe someday, if i see there is no clear elegant fit for the 680m in the x7200, i will get the 7970m CF. A pair is 900 euros here in germany, and hopefully, without an integrated GPU in the CPU, there wont be so much issues driver wise, wich i strongly doubt.

    However, for now still waiting to see if 680m SLI in the x7200 happens, as i do like the adaptive vsync feature only the nvidia drivers have.

    I remain with the hope that there will be better drivers released for the 7970m CF, and who knows , maybe something along the lines of adaptive vsync too, but i think im asking too much.

    The guy stopped responding to my PMs, he just ignored the last 3 of them. Never replied to the thread anymore either.
    Not sure why one.de even attempted to start their "official Support" on hardwareluxx when they ignore customers.

    Also if the W870CU supports a 580M, it should support a 670M too without mods.

    And I would delete your e-mail address from your post, because you will get countless spam emails when web crawlers pick it up.

    Thanks, sirana!
    I've already tried to put the 670M inside my laptop: it works at the beginning, BIOS says "unknown VGA card", but after some seconds it starts beeping and the three leds flashing (heat-sink GPU start work in full power); after several seconds the laptop shuts down. I think it could be just the BIOS not recognizing the video board or having some thermal checking issues.
    vBios from Clevo. I found in internet, some guy how have the same situation.
