A LOT of new models.... many duplicates with different colored chassis's though. :)

    If you are wondering....

    Deciphering the Model Number:

Let me help break it down:
    xxxx T = Intel Montevina (Intel Penryn 45nm) + Cantiga GM45
xxxx TU = Intel Montevina (Intel Penryn 45nm) + Cantiga PM45 + Nvidia dedicated videocard
    xxxx S/SS = SiS M672 + Intel Penryn 45nm
    xxxx SU = SiS 671DX + Intel Penryn 45nm + Nvidia 9300m GS
xxxx R/RU = Intel Santa Rosa (Intel Penryn 65nm/45nm)
    xxxx J = AMD Puma (AMD Turion X2 Ultra) + AMD/ATI RD780M
    xxxx C = Intel P965 desktop chipset + LGA775 Intel 65nm/45nm (only D90xC notebooks)

    For 12-13.3"

    For 14.1"-15.4"

    For 17" and up

Wow thats a pretty long list. :D

    Enjoy. :)

P.S. I will update the Clevo Guide with the models... be patient.

The L390T on that link is listed as a 19" (you should say 17" and above).
    Otherwise, nice compilation. :)

What is amazing the battery life of the new model M570 TU which is:

    Battery life > 130 minutes (with 4400mAh)

Great, Better than the M860 TU

Also it is now 100% sure it will support the 9800GTX:
    Thanks

You can order as soon as Intel gives the thmubs up for Montevina... less than a day now.

Then you will see this system up for order on all Clevo importer OEM sites (Sager & their resellers, Eurocom, Pro-Star) and many other reseller sites.

So Clevo says that Linux is among supported OSes on the M860TU. Does anybody know what this concretely means? Is Clevo really going out of its way to help the kernel developers with drivers or are they just sitting in the sidelines waiting for support to magically manifest itself?

When Dell added support for Linux, in my opinion that was too little too late to make any difference for me. I bought a Compal but to my knowledge Compal has not been especially collaborative with the Linux community. If Clevo moves toward Linux support in any kind of significant way, they might get my business for future purchases.

Why does that spec list note that:

Processor Make/Class -- Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo; Extreme; PENRYN 45nm

    ?

Does this mean X9100? I am probably misinterpreting this because Paladin's sticky thread is pretty clear about support for those processors. Although, as he also notes, that stuff is always subject to change at the last minute.

EDIT: I think it does support the X9100 (if this spec is final), looking at the spec that says 3.06 GHz.

No ATI card for the TU :(. It says GTX on the front page of the TU but GT on the detailed specs. I'm guessing you can't find the details of the cards yet anywhere for comparing GT/GTX 8800 and 9800.

do we still not know how the 9800gs/gt compares to the 8800gtx cause the nda or something?
and if not, are the benchmarks done and just waiting to be release tommorow, or do we have to wait for testing?

edit: nvm, misread. the laptop is going to support 9600gt/gs, which defiantly is a step down from 8800gtx. looks like they skipped the 9800 series all together =(

Linux has been used on many Clevo notebooks before. Pretty much most Nvidia systems have the best compatibility with Linux distros.

    So its nothing new.

It might not be supported with the heat... my color scheme did not gray it out.

I updated it with a strike through... so that there is no further confusion. :)

You are not answering my question. Linux has been used on just about any piece of hardware you can mention. That does not translate into support from the hardware vendor.

If a vendor lists Linux as a supported OS, I would expect them to be actively providing support. This means dedicating resources (manpower, money, technical information) towards the development of all which is necessary to make full use of their laptop. Is Clevo actually dedicating such resources or are they just mentioning Linux without making any support commitment. If the latter, then Clevo is no better than vendors who don't support Linux.

This is not a trivial matter. When it comes to supporting Linux on machines for which there is no official support, I've "been there, done that". The lack of official support means that it can easily take 6 months to a year on latest generation hardware before all functionality is supported. Heck, support for the fingerprint scanner on my IFL90 has just started being developed.

wow, anyone else reconsidering the purchase after this 1.5 hour battery life business? thats pretty bad... is that supposed to be with power save features on, or is this supposed to be with everything running like in intensive games?

Manufacturers usually don't provide numbers based on conditions which are unfavorable to battery life. In other words, 1.5 hours is not a number obtained when running intensive games or even just playing a movie.

Quite the contrary, I find that manufacturers tend to exaggerate how long a battery will be able to power the laptop under normal working conditions.

I would wait until someone reviews the machine before putting any stock into the advertised battery life.

Average and yes this was never going to be an all purpose laptop, its a performance laptop in a smaller package. For all purpose you'll be looking at the 2092 replacement and the 9600 gt graphics card.

I'm interested to see the performance of the hd3870 versus the 8800m. Moreover, I'm interested to see if there is a price difference between them (hd3870 being cheaper) along with power consumption numbers. It may turn out to be a nice alternative.

Ok guys, get your new Clevo M860TU and M570TU from your preferable vendor. :)

I updated the specs of the Clevo M860TU that reflects several vendors options that are accurate and fully supported by Clevo.
