Well, as mentioned in other threads, I am looking to doing game capture and streaming using my Sager NP8170 too, so I decided to open up a new thread so that we can discuss on how you all do such game capture! :D

To get the ball rolling, here's something I posted in Hardwarezone ( http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/usb-capture-streaming-cards-games-5384877.html) about this:

I used to use NGREEDIA ShadowPlay, but I no longer allow GeForce Experience to be installed on my systems and use modded drivers with all of the bloatware junk removed. So, now I use Mirillis Action. It actually does a better job to ShadowPlay.

This is for desktop and game capture only, for videos I edit and upload to YouTube. I don't do any live streaming, nor do I view any live video streams, so I am not able to comment on that part.

Are you doing this on your 560M? You can pretty much rule out any high-performance on-machine captures then. Most current recording/streaming clients leverage NVFBC on Nvidia cards which is only available on Kepler (600 series) and higher. The H264 encoding is done on the fly, on the GPU with little performance impact. Otherwise you have to CPU encode which can get quite CPU intensive and thus, impact the actual stream content.

If you go with a hard box you need to use an external monitor.

Personally I usually just use ShadowPlay for recording. For streaming I use OBS.

You should try the new beta. It requires an attached account (I just login with my google account). They've added a proper overlay with short-keys for shadowplay. Best of all, it loads in 2 seconds, no more waiting god damn forever for the thing to load and probably crash. I'm using it on my desktop now as well. Granted, I also use it to use the Nvidia Gamestream feature (ie SHIELD streaming) with Moonlight clients (HTPC, phone etc).

As do I. I've only ever recorded one gameplay video, at least to date, and it was incredibly simple. Audio quality was surprisingly good even from a cheap $15 clip-on mic.

Hmm yeah, I am doing this on my 560M, which rules out ShadowPlay, and generally, any option that lets me play and stream/record on the same computer.

Good news is that I am playing games on my iPad Air mostly; I don't think I will be playing much computer games for now. I will be using OBS, quite impressed with what it has and works nicely for my use case.

I am also looking into options that can record without a PC, currently emailing several manufacturers to see what options I have e.t.c.

I was going to say, Aorus managed to get some hardware M.2 streaming cards (basically a H264 hardware encoder from what I understand), but that machine will definitely be before M.2 came about.

    Maybe it's time to upgrade?

What model name is that card? This is the first time I heard of such M.2 streaming cards

It is an Avermedia M.2, though I can't remember the specific model name of it. It was an M.2 that came in X5 models, taking up one of the M.2 slots, and it would help do some of the work for streaming (maybe recording too), to help take some of the load off the CPU. I'm not sure if it works in any other model of computer, I don't think we ever tried. Might be possible, as long as your computer has a 22x80mm M.2 slot . Also, I'm not sure if it was B, M, or B+M keyed either, but it might be worth looking in to if you are thinking of trying one out in a computer.

I tried searching more for that card; apparently, it seems to be a card made specially for Aorus only... and the card did not work well for all users

That's what I figured might be the case. A nice idea if you don't need to use all your M.2 slots and want to stream a bit, though. Hopefully there might be some kind of similar item in the future.

It won't work in my use case unfortunately; I want to be able to stream and record games from other game consoles to my laptop. The M.2 card does not allow that (it streams and records only the gameplay on the laptop)

Might have to just break down and get an external like an Elgato in that case.

I am already sourcing for such external devices. The M.2 card sounds like an interesting option for those who just want to record the laptop's output though given that it seems to be the first M.2. capture device

I've also heard good things about the Razer Ripsaw, as an external option for recording game play. Haven't used one myself yet, but heard it is pretty easy to use and less problematic than some other cap cards.

    It seems unusually expensive though

If it works better than other cards, or is easier to use, then it might be worth it though.

Yeah, I don't mind paying more for something that will work well, only thing is, seems to me that all cards out there have equal amount of people praising that it works... and the amount of people saying that it does not work...
