Over the last 2 days my laptop has gotten a clicking noise near the power jack where I plug in my AC adapter.

At first I thought that it was a problem with my AC adapter, but the clicking noise pops up randomly even when my adapter is not plugged in.
My adapter does have some weak points on 3 spots on the cord so I decided to buy a new one before it got frayed. The clicking is not consistent nor does it last long. The sounds usually occurs when I play a game for 1-4 hours+ and can happen once or twice between these play times for around 5-10 seconds then it just stops. I have been monitoring my core temperature thinking that may be the problem but my temps don't seem abnormal. My laptop run 55-63 degrees Celsius without games on and around 65-80 degrees with games on.

I have been googling the problem with different key words and it seems that the problem could either be fatal for my laptop or could be completely harmless. I have run a hard disk diagnostic tool called HD Tune and my complete error scan came up green ( I have not been able to access the health option). The benchmark displays a lot of information i am unfamiliar with but the chart did not seem sporadic which i can only assume is good.

My graphics are all turned to my nvidia card so it can't be the sound of my integrated card being switch to,

I am not really sure what system information i should be posting here to help pin point my problem or what other diagnostic and measuring tools I should be using besides the HD tune and core temp program. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had this laptop for over 2 years now, it has never been dropped, it has never displayed any colored screens of death, magnetized instruments etc have been no where near it, and I haven't had any new hardware installed on it since I have bought the laptop. This may just be wear and tear from the poor heat management I have done over the years or the fact that I haven't kept up with cleaning the fans. I would just hate to be wrong however and have a small issue lead to something frying my laptop that cost 2000 dollars something I can't begin to afford again.

It's likely that there is an issue between the jack and motherboard if the noise persists when running on battery, but I've no clue what would be causing it. In any case I would have that RMA's asap because that type of stuff usually tends to just get worse.

Edit: Just read that it's a 2yr old, if you're out of warranty it's a tough call on what your options............basically either continue to use it risking a short, or have it inspected by a professional you can trust.

im guessing its a clevo laptop as youve posted it in this thread but more info on spec would certainly help.
model name/number, cpu/gpu/ram/hard drive model size speed etc

It's worth checking to see if it is the jack or the HDD.

I don't have a Clevo laptop but my Asus G75 was having the same issue where there was a strange popping sound coming from the jack area and it turned out that the power adapter that connects to the motherboard was loose and it was causing sparks aka that popping sound so I had to send it in for maintenance and they ended up having to solder the adapter more securely to the motherboard. Don't know of this is the same issue that you are having but I would definitely have it checked out cause it can cause damage to your laptop.

That whole area is electrically dark without the AC being plugged in however.
