I just placed my order for this Newegg.com - Hitachi GST Travelstar 0S03563 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive
along with this ADATA XPG SX300 ASX300S3-64GM-C Solid State Drive - Newegg.com
Ill use the msata as a caching drive for quicker boot/shutdown times and speedier windows performance, and the reviews on the hitachi indicate it is the best HDD available for the size.

I had been waiting for larger SSDs as well as a drop, but even with the introduction of the new Evo series, I just can't (yet) justify the cost based on my usage.

I know a fresh install is always recommended, but the thought of downloading all my games through steam again, setting up all my software, etc is going to eat up too much time, hence why I am cloning. I am going from a 750gb hdd which has about 550gb filled.

I'm looking at Acronis and Macrium and also trying to decide whether to go with a paid version or free.

I plan on installing the new 1tb hdd into my second hdd slot in my np9170, cloning, and then swapping out the new drive for the old. Correct?

Does it matter when I install the msata? I plan on using it with Intel Smart response for caching. Do I do this via the BIOS?

    Thanks for all the help!

you can just leave the 750GB old drive there. and no need to swap their position. just set the booting drive in bios. btw i did swap the system drive to the slot under the optical drive as the slot under the touch pad is not that secure. fyi the driver under optical drive is drive 0 and under touch pad is drive 1. which means primary drive is the one under optical drive. clevo/sager put the system drive to drive 1 is simply for convenient assembly

I plan to just keep the old 750gb drive in my safe as a plug n play backup in case my hdd crashes on me one day.

Any recommendations on which software and whether the paid version of said software is worth it?

What about the msata drive? Does it matter if i install it before the clone or after since I am using it just a cache? (I dont think it should make a difference, right?)
