Anyone know where I can buy or preferably get a spare part for my steelseries keyboard? The collar locking pin is basically the part that is attached to the keyboard ribbon while it's in the pin socket to secure it so it doesn't fall out. I have a Sager NP9170. Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Sorry, you can't buy a Steel Series keyboard on Sager NP9170. Following is the e-mail from MSI and Steel Series:
"Please remember that SteelSeries keyboard design solely for MSI branded system.
MSI will not take any responsibility if customer use this on any other systems that is non-MSI branded.
If customer install it into any other branded system, Steel Series might take legal action.

If you just want to buy an extra backlit keyboard, you can check with Sager. -
OP isn't asking about buying a keyboard, just a part.
@gwfreak01 - Do you mean the plastic locking clip on the keyboard connector on the motherboard? If it is that, it's a clevo part. A picture might make it easier for us to identify. -
I think by "customer" they mean Sager or Clevo or Eurocom and not end customer as end customers are allowed to mod however they like.
But yes a photo would help. -

The locking clip is that part is number 12 in the picture. -
Usually that thing is part of the connector on the motherboard not part of the keyboard. You may have removed it completely. Is it broken or all in one piece? You may have to end up taping your keyboard ribbon cable in place if it's broken.

Let me take a picture of it and also, if I had to tape it, what type of tape would I have to use?

Some are like this with the full black bar:
oOthers like this with the ones on the side:
In either case, if you aren't sure how they work, it's easy to remove the tab with a little bit of force. I've done it in the past too.
You will have to make sure it's securely in the slot and tape it with electrical tape. I'd tape the ribbon cable just behind the connector to make sure it doesn't shift. In any case if it doesn't work well that way you might have to send the machine in and get it fixed. -
yeah, I have to send it back then so they can repalce the motherboard. Do you know how quickly they can return it? btw this is XoticPC

If they are truly going to replace the motherboard, that will be a very costly repair. It is a fairly straightforward solder job if you're talented at it, so they may just fix it, cost a heck of a lot less than replacing the entire motherboard, unless it's going to be covered under warranty.
Here's a repair guide: Laptop Repair Help » How to fix broken keyboard connector on laptop motherboard
Bottom line, the cable needs something underneath it to keep it snug in the connector. One of the user comments noted in that link is they used a file folder cut to size to slip under the keyboard cable to keep the cable snug in the connector. Just be very careful with any metal screwdrivers or anything because I fried a motherboard by dragging some pliers across a motherboard by accident. Granted I forgot to remove the battery. That's the other thing, unplug and remove battery before you attempt any kind of repair. I don't understand why they don't make those bars replaceable. They're so fragile. -
Yeah, it should be covered under warranty because I just got my laptop August 10th. Also, I think they have to replace the motherboard because my battery isnt charging and isnt being used. It only turns on when I plug in the AC adapter. Also how long does it take for the turn around time because I leave the 28th to college from TX to NY.
