College and deciding between NP9130 or NP9150?

Ok so i want to get a sager for college since I am a huge hardcore gamer and I figured I wouldnt take my desktop down until the 3rd year.

Anyways I wanted to know the NP9130's/NP9150's were good for college? Are they portable enough? Can they get you through a day of classes?

I wanted to get feedback from college students who have a sager?

Next question... Is the NP9150 really worth the extra $150-200 more than the NP9130? I mean whats really getting me is the backlit keyboard and the rubberized finish instead of the plastic on the NP9130.

Also I would be getting the same exact specs if I got the NP9150 anyways. Which inludes...(the lowest i7, GTX 670m, 12gb RAM)

    Thanks in advance.

If youre taking the same specs and dont mind having plastic instead of the rubber finish (or even prefer having it like me - i just hate the rubber) and the lack of a backlit keyboard doesnt bother you theyre the same machine (last difference being the smaller power brick on the NP9130 - so its limited to 670M) and spending 150-200$ more would be a waste.
With Optimus you should get about 5 usable hours of battery life. I had the P150HM and it was easy to carry round, but it didnt have Optimus so the battery life was rather short. This time round you get it all ;).

The np9130 is like having seex... and bacon... and not having to get out of bed for either.

Having the 5 hour battery life on a gaming laptop is a first. Embrace it, like you would a soft fluffy cat inside your jacket on a brisk spring evening.

    Good luck with school.

So if i were to ever want to upgrade the gpu, i couldnt past a 670m?

And damnit now it really would be easier and better for me to get the NP9130 instead, but i really want that backlit keyboard, but i guess im going to have to sacrifice it. Also I really dont care about the rubber finish.

You could upgrade but it would also require getting a larger power brick if you wanted to use a 100W GPU in the NP9130 (and the appropriate new heatsink). At least thats how it was with P150HM and P151HM.

I'm getting a sager np9130 for the exact same reasons.

Yes, I was also bummed with the lack of a backlit keyboard, but hey, for that big of a price reduction, it's fine by me.

Also, with the money I would spend on the np9150, I'll get an SSD.

    EDIT:

Also, this is how I put things:

high end gaming is only meant for a desktop experience. I will never spend more than 1200 for a laptop, and even now I think I've stretched it a bit. Thing is, the price/performance ratio that clevo offers is so good compared to companies like HP, dell or even asus that I really couldn't spend my money on another manufacturer.

But you bet your I'm not going to upgrade the laptop. I've got my gaming rig for a hardcore experience.

Im also not a fan of upgrading. Instead, I buy a new one each 8 months or so.

Enthusiasts are enthusiasts, but I still find it bit exaggerated.

Sorry for spamming your thread OP.

I sell them. My laptops are always in pristine perfect condition. I've had only 2 laptops in my life so far: my current one and the previous (an Acer Aspire 5742g). I've also had an Asus EEEPC netbook in 2008, but that doesent count as a laptop (played Starcraft BroodWar on it when I travelled around).

Bought the Acer in January 2011. 9 months later I got my current machine.
This year, Im gonna get an Ivy laptop with AMD 7970m. Machines of choice will be:
1.) MSI's new 17.3" line (gotta have to upgrade the gtx670m to the amd 7970m somehow)
2.) Clevo P170EM (I dislike its glossy surfaces, but other than that its a good option for me)
3.) Clevo P270WM (big, chunky, fat, expensive, currently recalled by its manufacturer...but I'd like to have a laptop with Mini PCI-Ex slots and desktop hexa core CPU)
4.) Clevo P370EM (unknown whether this is just a rumor or a forthcoming model, I would expect it to have dual GPU's and a mobile processor)

So thats pretty much it. Out of the 4 options, I like option 1 the most. Now its time to play the waiting game: there are 2 possible configs for me.
==One: I get it with a gtx670m and upgrade it myself with amd 7970m
==Two: I get it with gtx680m (if its even possible, no idea if MSI would make it an option). This option however depends heavily on the price nvidia puts on its gtx680m. And if AMD beats it with just the 7970m, then nvidia can get lost; Im gonna use option One in that case.

Wow. Long post. I hope someone benefits from it...(other than my ego).

What i would say is that a keyboard backlight is one of those things where you think about it, and then say I don't need it. Then later, it is dark and your room mates want to sleep, and you wish you spent the extra money. Also, a rubberized finish will probably be nice, I have always liked them better. They don't get slimy/sticky/change color as much as plastic.

That I may agree with. I asked about the build quality of the np9130 a lot, but no one has given me a straight answer, but I expect to be decent at least.

I dont agree rubber is better. Imo it feels cheaper and filthy. But thats just my oppinion.
I prefer brushed aluminium or hard plastic which is also one reason i went with the P170EM this time.

Right now were getting to a point where mobile hardware is on par with high end desktop hardware so i dont see where youre coming from saying gaming is reserved only for desktops.

I also always used to say im going to keep *this* laptop for a long time to come... Not anymore though :p... Heck every laptop i get stays with me for a shorter time than the previous. I only had the P150HM four months.

My friend finally bought a NP9130 today. We decided on that because we couldn't justify the $200 higher price for the same specs; he also wanted the 670m. The backlit keyboard is not something we've ever had and can't imagine paying extra for. I've followed this forum for way too much now and I'll definitely try to give a review to the best of my ability when it comes in. I still intend to get a Sager/Clevo of my own in the coming months, likely the Sager NP9150 or maybe even the Clevo W110ER.

I've bought four computers in the past four years  First a laptop, then another laptop to replace that one, then a netbook, and finally a desktop computer. None of them were too expensive (the desktop was actually the priciest), but now my goal is to consolidate it all into one machine so I don't feel compelled to buy more computers

Keep that up and I swear I'll derail this thread faster than you ever could :p

    To each his own :p

Anyway, I'll post a review as soon as I get mine too.

Well, if you're not a heavy gamer and you would be fine with a 670M, go for the NP9130. The power adapter is lighter and it'll be more convenient to carry around. Also, Optimus. Battery life should be important for a college student, right? The NP9150 with a 7970M won't have that luxury.

So I would go with the NP9130 if I were you, maybe even one of the W1xxER models. It all depends on the gaming factor.

    BTW, nice avatar OP

Haha wow... but dont you still lose a lot of money from that? I mean i would guess since the laptop is a year old you would only get about 50% of what you payed back. Am I right?

Im going to do the same though in a year I decided instead of buying my sager now im going to do it in a year from around now. Ill sell my HP and hope to get something.

Cant wait to read your review. I hope ill be able to see it. (ill most likely forget, lol)

What are the specs you got in your NP9130?
