Hi guys I'm new here. First time i heard of Clevo.
I am planning to build a laptop for university. I'm an avid gamer on a budget. After browsing through i feel this is most value for money spec that can last me for my 3 years in university.
    Appreciate comments
    Thank You

    Lotus P150HM (P150HM)

    Customizations:
Promotions: $100 Off Configurations Over $1500
Display: 15.6" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED Backlit Glossy Display
( still deciding if it is worth the upgrade to 95% gamut. and if so matte or glossy )
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.2-3.1GHz
    Memory: (8GB) 8192MB, PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3 - 2 SO-DIMM

( value for money processor? its just a $50 more from stock. 1333 MHz ram because the processor cannot support 1666MHz. Im pretty sure 8gb is enough for now or i can always add it next time)
    Graphics Card: AMD® Radeon HD 6990M 2GB GDDR5
(Best GPU i just have to have it. It is not overpowering my processor right?)
    Hard Drive: 500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300
( i have an external hd for other stuff so 500 gb is sufficient. will add 1 SSD when the price drop lower)
Optical Drive Bay: 8X Multi DVD+/-R/RW RAM Dual-Layer Drive
    Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 7 Home Premium; 64-bit
    Wireless: Intel® 6230 Advanced-N 802.11A/B/G/N LAN and Bluetooth Card

( not very sure if id go for 6300. will this affect video streaming/skype/ online gaming?)
Cooling: Stock OEM Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU
    ( Adding thermal compound myself)
    Keyboard: English: US & Canada
    Power Cord: UK
    Branding: None
    Build Time: 5-7 Business Days
Warranty: LIFETIME Ltd. Labor and 1 Year Parts Warranty with 24/7 Support (USA)

(the warranty for UK is so expensive.)

    Product Subtotal: $1,544.00

Or should i upgrade to a Satori P170HM with the same specs. It will cost me only $50 more.
I will not have provblem with the bulk.
Im more concerned with the battery life. Will there be a lot difference between the 15" and the 17"? Is there no option to turn off the battery hungry GPU to use a lighter GPU for longer battery?

    Also to Malibal:
Are the following parts in stock? If i were to order them say .. today when will it reach St-louis USA. because my sister is currently in the States for the week will be flying back Saturday morning 29Oct. I figure it will save a lot of shipping fee to Singapore. Thanks

Well, the battery life between the 150HM and the 170HM are pretty comparable, heavily dependent on what you're doing, but the 170HM has a bigger screen, so it would make sense to think that it would have shorter battery life.

No, you can't turn off the GPU. Since you have AMD, what you can do is to use the RivaTuner Overclocking software to create three profiles for your card. 1 with low clock frequencies to use for basic usage, 2 for multimedia playback and 3 for heavy duty gaming. NVIDIA already has those 3 (or 2?) profiles built into every card, and it's honestly not that hard to use RivaTuner with AMD, so it's not a big deal.

That's actually pretty much exactly what I ordered.
I went for the 6230 and i've had no problems with it. Bluetooth is pretty handy. (especially if you have a bluetooth mouse). Also, I use my college wireless.

The 6990m is a bomb and has exceeded my expectations and will last me for years. There is one thing that I would suggest very strongly, however.

The 95% gamut screen is just phenomenal. It really isn't comparable to other screens. I put it side by side with my school laptop that I bought a month ago and it was just mindblowing how much more vibrant, clear, and bright it was. If you have the money, I would definitely recommend getting it instead of going up to a less luggable laptop with a slightly bigger screen and much more expensive screen upgrades. Actually, I would say the screen upgrade is a borderline must. Instead of spending 50 dollars on the 17 inch, use it on the screen (or even better, get the matte upgrade. the matte is just delectable).

You should send malibal a PM to see what's in stock. They respond pretty fast (or you can open up a ticket at their website).

Also, I don't know what good a US warranty will do you, but if it do anything for you at all, I would STRONGLY recommend getting a warranty. It's worth it.
