Has anyone been able to do a direct comparison between the glossy and matte finish screens ?

For me, I've had glossy screen for so many years. Matte screen was a blessing.

Theres a thread with comparison photos and specs of all the screen options for the P150HM and P170HM, search the forums a bit next time, theres so many threads about this popping up.
    HERE (thanks to Mythologic).

I could never go glossy again. I can't stand the reflections.

Now, if only Clevo had a matte bezel like that Asus.

What is a bezel? :) I'm quite unfamiliar with that word..

I have the glossy, how many of us will spend time under the sun gaming? I can see the glare sometimes from the window. I would rather spend money to buy a led monitor than spend 200 bucks for a screen! On the other hand, if you were getting the 15inch one, I think its much cheaper for the matte screen! I would recommend it !

The bezel is the "border" or cover around the monitor holding it in place or at least hiding the mount. On my x7200, it is a shiny piece of black plastic surrounding the LCD screen.

What about getting a glossy screen but then buying a 35$ screen inlay to make it matte. Do those work well or are there issues?

That should work decently if it's a quality filter. The only complaints they generally get are that it can make the screen a bit darker, and if it's a sticker there can be air bubbles.

The screen filters are very hard to apply and are generally worse in quality than factory-made matte panels...

If you can sacrifice a few $$ on something else like RAM, I'd suggest you initially go with Matte.

Always matte whenever I get the choice. Yah I can control the light in whatever room I am working in (mostly) but when you do get in a position where that lamp in blooming right in the middle of your screen, it can get rather annoying.

That and the kid's fingerprints .... yuck!

I suppose it depends on your usage conditions. If you're going to stay indoor all the time, Glossy would be a better option since the colors and contrast will be better.

If there is going to be a lot of light, or you will take the notebook outdoor, then Matte is the obvious choice, Glossy screens are practically unusable under sunlight, and aren't that great when there is a good amount of light shining on the screen.

Why would you game on a laptop in the sunlight? Always puzzled me.

I think glossy screens have better colors, so I would go for that instead.

In my case, I take my laptop with me everywhere I go and use it a lot at work. I work at a fire station though, and on the occasion (which isn't very often) if it's cool or nice outside and I'm not busy I'll sit on my laptop at a table we have outside. That's probably the only time I could think of where I'd game outside though. Or even at the house if I want to sit out back and enjoy the breeze

Oh I rest my case then.

It's the opposite with me, always sitting indoors with decent lighting which is too highly placed to interfere with a Glossy screen.

I am considering buying a Clevo but an IPS panel is a must for me. Can the current owners possibly comment on the screen quality? Please mention your models. Apologies if this is hijacking the thread. Did not want to create a new one as the topic seemed related.

If an IPS is a must, the Sager/Clevo part would not be the right choice for you.

    You have a few choices,

    12.5" Lenovo X220 with 6-bit IPS
    15.6" Dell M4600 with 10-bit IPS RGBLED
    15.6" HP 8560w with 10-bit IPS RGBLED
    17.3" Dell M6600 with 10-bit IPS RGBLED
    17.3" HP 8760w with 10-bit IPS RGBLED

I've used the P150HM with BOTH panels, the 95% matte and the 95% glossy, and I've recently had the Precision M4600 with 10-bit IPS RGBLED.

Although horizontal viewing angles are pretty good, the vertical angles are not too good compared to the IPS series, and it won't be comparable. Colorwise, they lag behind the true RGB of the workstations.

Say you should presumably present some kind of conclusion here.

Which screen is the right eye-candy? I've seen the M4600 at work, and it's beautiful. But regarding the 95% matte vs 95% glossy, at perfect conditions, which would win?

95% Glossy is an overall better screen.

Unless you have a need for matte, glossy wins hands down in terms of brightness, contrast, and overall color quality(this might be subjective).
