OCZ does make great drives, I use a vertex 3 on my desktop. The potential issues it can have with Sager/Clevo machines does make me suggest people use other brands on them. Intel 510 series or Crucial M4 seems to be the best reliability on them. While you could have no problems with a OCZ at first you could run into issues 5-6 months down then road. As you know SSD aren't cheap, so i'd stick with a brand that doesnt have potential issues.

Confused by your statement Hutsady. I am planning on ordering a SSD and HDD (no optical) rig but am unsure of whether it makes sense to roll the dice (so to speak) with the faster OCZ or stick with a patriot m4 or intel. Frankly the intel is priced (310 vs 510) far above I don't know what do do and am torn. Yes the resellers offer intel but do I dare with an OCZ?

The only sandforce drive that works well on these is the Patriot Wildfire that we have, as we've worked with Patriot to get a custom firmware load on them that work with the Clevo shells properly.

I would also suggest the M4 or Intel drives.

The best-priced, uber-reliable drives right now are actually the Samsung 830 and Crucial M4 I think. The 128GB versions can be had for $200 at one place online or another. That's compared with, say the Samsung 470 (SATA II), which is back at $170 today at Newegg, making it a no-brainer to get the 830 (with free Batman Arkham City). The 64GB versions can usually be had for around $100-$110. The Intel drives aren't very well-priced when they aren't on those ridiculous rebates of a few weeks ago.

I purchases an OCZ Vertex 3 240GB Max IOPS and put it in my SAGER 8150 and moved the 750GB drive it came with to the optical bay.

The latest 2.15 BIOS was already on the drive.

I have had ZERO problems. Not one freeze or any thing else. Installation of Fedora 16 x64 went without a single issue.
