I have never purchased anything but a dell for a laptop and am looking to get something fast without the alien ware markup.

What worries me about Sager is the 200$ dead pixel guarantee. How dead pixel prone are these 1080p panels they use? do we know the panel maker?

I was going to go with the ATI as I read it was faster... is this true?

Is the recommendation to hit sager's website its self or xotic or some other maker to get the PC? What are the Ram speeds on the 8690 if I go bare bones <<rjtech>> and buy the guts elsewhere?

How is the longevity of this brand; ie am I looking at it disintegrating after 12 months?

    Thanks in advance.

I opted for the warranty, as having dead pixels for me would be a bummer, I think it is really a crap shoot whether you get a good panel or not from reading the posts here. Without taking a poll there really is no way of coming up with some percentages.

Yes it is faster by about 20% or so

Any of the resellers will give you better service than Sager. I went with Powernotebooks, it was a toss up between them and XoticPC.

Ram speed you can use is the DDR3 1333. I have my system coming with 4 gigs of stock ram, but have purchased Kingston HyperX for the lower CL (7-7-7-20). Any of the major brands would be fine as they all come with the same standard CL's (9-9-9-24)

That is hard to say. I think they can easily live several years, but like anything you could get one that die's young. When I ordered my machine I choose the upgraded 2 year warranty with dead pixel warranty for 239, I figure really the added cost for the peace of mind was worth it for another 39, since I was going to get the dead pixel anyway.

I did not opt for the dead pixel insurance. I ordered mine from R & J and was very pleased with the service and speed in which I recieved it. I purchased the 870cu and was very pleased with the display. I also took the ATI card as everything I have read its a very nice card and it has not disappointed. I think the general consensus from what I have read is that the service from some of the resellers is much better than what people have recieved from Sager directly. The Clevo line is supposed to be one of the nicer and well built laptops. I would not be concerned about build quality or the laptop lasting under normal usage. I have been very impressed with mine it is well built and runs cool, stays cool to the touch and there isnt excessive fan noise. The biggest complaint I have heard about the 860 and the 870, and my biggest complaint as well, is the crappy sound you get from the built in speakers, even the output for the headphones sucked. Even for a laptop the sound out of the box is subpar, but that is my only complaint. I had an laptop X-Fi that I am using on mine and with that I am very happy. All things being equal I would make the same purchase again and again. :)

I don't understand why any company would charge you extra for their guarantee of no dead pixels? ridiculous.

It could actually be an indictation that dead pixels are quite common and including such a guarantee in the standard guarantee would mean too many RMAs. At least like for every single dead pixel.

Mine didn't come with any dead pixels, thank God since I was cheap and didn't buy the pixel policy.

I bought it through Xotic, couldn't have been happier with their service, very good communication and changed my shipping while it was already being built at Sager when I realized I needed it quicker.
