Hi, recently I have been considering getting a new gaming laptop. In 2009, I bought a Dell SXPS 1640 (specs in sig) and after gaming a bit on it, I decided that I wanted to return to PC gaming (I've mainly been playing console for the last couple of years b/c I couldn't afford a decent gaming laptop), but with an obviously better laptop.

I was considering getting the Sager NP8760-S1. It seems to be a pretty good deal. Possible specs are...

    i7 840QM
    NVidia GTX 470M
    8 GB DDR3 RAM
    80 GB Intel SSD
500 GB 7200 RPM Secondary HDD

The thing is, would it be better to wait to buy a new laptop next year, after Intel's SB platform, ATI 6XXX, and NVidia 5XXM? I want to future proof it as much as possible.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to wait then yes, but you will never be able to wait for the latest tech.

yep, every now and then there will be a new technology in the horizon and if you keep waiting you will never buy anything, so my advice go for the 8760 its a great laptop and with the tessellation in the 470m you will be future proof for a while, and as to the CPU it depends on what you intend to use the notebook for, if its for mere gaming then you will be future proof for a long time since gaming doesn't really use CPU that much and i know a lot of people who still play the latest games with Pentium 4 CPU's, so it quite alright for you to buy it now, BTW ALL OF THIS IS IMHO ^_^

840QM is a good choice; gap between the expensive one and the lesser one, but still delivers solid performance. Your config is pretty much right on the money, if that is, you're talking about future proofing it now, rather than later.

This is a great choice! It should provide excellent performance for some time to come with the 470M!

Just a note, Sager has said there is a 12-15 day delay of shipping systems with the 470M...

Sorry I should have made it more clear. What I meant was if you were to order it in the last couple of days or now, there would be a 12-15 day delay to ship.
Since you ordered on the 7th it may not apply to you... :)

Thanks guys! Hopefully, my parents will let me purchase one soon. I've been saving up for quite some time. Does anyone know if sites that sell Clevo/Sager, like Xotic, have special discounts for Black Friday and the like?
