Well it came out and apparently the 485m is a beast like the 8800gtx was in the pc days, i really want to go sli but at the moment it seems there are no such offerings with sandy bridge, apart from getting those laptops that run 980x with 485m sli.

So i'm kind of caught in dilemma as to what get, i'm all about pure performance every little counts, so i'm letting you know upfront.

    1) are there any new sandy bridge cpu's coming out and what is the expected date

    2) i hear the laptops that have the 980x would outperform the new sandy bridge hands downn

    3) i also hear 485m destroys 2 460m sli, is this actually true? this is the biggest deciding factor for me.

    4) any future road maps q2 q3 q4 in regards to laptops and upgrades coming

i'm purely a nvidia person and from the performance increase the 485m seems to have the 6 series covered aswell, i guess thats the current predicament....

    Hello somep3ople

The only new sandy bridge cpus that are worth waiting for will be the desktop version in a notebook. Just like the NP7280 currently uses a true desktop cpu, hopefully we'll see a refresh on that model or something similar with a true desktop SB chip in it. No idea when those will come out though. But with the speeds people have been achieving with it it would be killer to get in a notebook.

Notebooks with the 980X will outperform all current cpu's including the SB chips so if you want the fastest of the fast you dont need to wait for any other chips to come out, its already available.

I'll have to disagree with the 485M destroying 2x 460M in SLI. From the benches i've seen between the two cards its a toss up. One outperforms the other depending on the bench, and even then its pretty minimal diffreces. People could be getting different results though.

i've been looking at malibal, they seem to have very low prices 1.8k for just a sandy bridge and 485m 3.4 for around dual 485m and desktop cpu.

How are the motherboards for the desktop cpu's built to handle the processors, are there any overclocking features etc, something in terms of quality parts and overclock ability like you find in desktop manufacturer boards. 4.0ghz is a breeze on pc you think i'd be possibly on the laptop board?

Malibal does offer very competative pricing. You'll find very comperable prices from most Clevo/Sager resellers.

Regarding quality of components I think most people will agree you'll find top notch in these notebooks
The NP7280 does have overclocking abilities on all the cpu options except the 980X. Notebooks dont typically do as good as desktops because of the limited cooling options/space in notebooks compared to a desktop

not to threadjack, and hopefully somep3ople will find it relevant to his inquiry, but i've read that the sager units cool very well, do they tend to be on the loud side, or relatively quiet?

Sager notebooks do cool very well. Since they are a gaming/high performance notebook cooling is very important to that equation and Sager takes that into consideration with their machines. They aren't whisper quiet but not loud. I'd say they are about the same as one of those notebook coolers you put your notebook on. When the fans kick on high they'll be slightly louder but nothing bothersome.

Actually, chrome (my default browser) was kind enough to open the front page only (cached?), other browsers (firefox,ie,opera) won't even open the front page.

That is strange, can you PM me your IP/location? I have pinged our website from several outside sources and don't see a issue.
