I have a Clevo W76TUN and (I suspect) my motherboard recently shorted (smelled of burning inside the case, although I can't see anything damaged. It happened during a thunderstorm, too).
Luckily it still works, but I have no sound and my cooler will not spin (replaced the cooler as well - no luck). Normal operation is not possible as the laptop will start to beep and automatically shutdown. To remedy the sound, I'll just buy an external soundcard, and to temporarily get the fan going I just wired it to an old USB cable. It works, but not fullspeed, and so while it won't auto shutdown during normal operation, running Orthos or something intense for a long period of time will eventually make it start to beep. How can I get some more juice going into the fan to make it run fullspeed? What kind of power does it need? I'm getting desperate here, any help would be VASTLY appreciated. I just cannot afford a new motherboard right now (400€![]()

Please help ;_;
EDIT: The cooler was on a molex 3-wire, yellow, red and black. I suppose the yellow wire was for speed control, so I did not connect it to anything in the USB, maybe I should?

better to buy new laptop for 400 Euro.
If you have expresscard slot then buy USB 3.0 Expresscard with DC-in and you will have 7V on output instead of 5. So fan should work faster but I can't guarantee that. I am not Joel Bauer.
