As the title say, I'd like to know if there's any cooling mods for this model, or for Clevo in general.
Yesterday I did the paperclip one on the GPU and to be totally honest, I didn't really see any major improvement like people were claiming in the thread.
I thought about cutting hole where the fans are, BUT, even with the laptop opened, on a cooling plate, it didn't really change anything.
The 8700k in it is mostly Under 80 during gaming, save for a few spike (Barely break 70s during Battlefront2)
The 1080 on another hand is another story. I can undervolt it up to 0.850mv while still reaching a stable 1800mhz, but no matter what, the temps always reach 80-82.
In a perfect world, I'd like to keep the GPU Under 80, for the longevity of the whole laptop.
The laptop came with CLU applied between the heatsink/HIS of the cpu and I was told that if I want to repad and repaste the GPU, I'd have to sand the liquid metal of the cpu and heatsink, Something I'm not comfortable doing.

This is basicially what you signed up for when buying clevo LGA jokebooks, aside from terrible keyboard, bad speakers, pathethic batterylife, loud fans and reused garbage software.
Games like crysis 3, witcher 3, Assassins creed origins, would warm your notebook considerably higher, CPU would probably roam around mid 80s to 90s.
There isn't much you can do if you've already cut some holes, using a coolingpad, did the paperclip "mod" and the undervolts.
I think the only thing you can do to attempt to cool it is maybe add more heatpipes or so, other than that you're out of luck.
As youve seen with comprodigy in that P751 owners thread, it's nothing unsual, if you were to play CPU demanding games, rendering or simply benchmark it you'd see the 90s on CPU. You paid a premium for that machine, the fact that you still bother after all the things that the BIOS already gave you I'm suprised you didn't return it and bought something that isn't this pathethic. -
Bios problems aside, the machine is running really well, I'm just nitpicking because I would like the GPU to stay Under the 80s mark.
Regarding the CPU, since the undervolting and the overclock, during gaming, it barely break the high 70s during gaming so I can't really say that the CPU is causing problems or anything.
But you are right, the command center is total ****, I found a good fan curve that let me have a mostly silent laptop during gaming (as loud as the PS4 I have) but the command center can't save settings for its life.
I also had a MSI laptop before with a 7700HQ and a 1050ti and the temps were average so I wanted to avoid them and Dell/Alienware, -
Again, it depends on what game or load you're playing/applying. Your CPU stays in high 70s because you don't play any CPU intensive games, once you find a game that you like that happens to have a higher usage the story changes.
I think at this point you are kinda either bound to leave it as it is or getting something else. -
Problem is, since I'm in Canada, I don't have acces to alot of resellers for custom gaming laptop.
For example, after building the same laptop, or close to, on HID, it would have costed me 4k not including the 200$ for shipping.
I can't deny that the laptop is far from perfect, but still, it's a laptop, with an overclocked desktop CPU and a full desktop 1080, I can't expect and I shouldn't expect desktop level temps. I'm just nitpicking because I'm scared that having the GPU sometime hover the 80s that it will harm the desktop, even if I rarely game and don't game for extented periods of time. -
I just ordered mine with an 8700K/1080. I know you said that you were being nitpicky, because if mine peaks around 80C during gaming I will be super happy. That means during during lighter loads or idle it will be much lower.
I know this model is pushing the limits due to it's compact size and a full desktop CPU and 1080. I just hope I don't see the jump to 100C and then throttle.oSChakal likes this. -
Just don't forget to undervolt your CPU and undervolt your GPU to give yourself the best experience possible.
Again, even with my 1080 at 0.850mv I was still able to push 1800hmz on core and + 600 on memory.
But yeah, like you said, those components are pushing the limits of what a laptop can do, so I should be happy with the temps.Porter likes this. -
From my preliminary testing with a curve. I'm able to hit 1898mhz at 0.931v. This is running haven benchmark. Again my system is P775TM1-G.
Edit: After running the benchmark, i was able to keep the clocks at 1886 core / 10516 memory at 0.9250v with 79C.Last edited: May 4, 2018 -

Guess my 1080 is a really crappy undervolter and can only do 1847MHz at 912mV lmao.

BTW if you haven't already, another thing you can do is elevate the bottom of the laptop a few cm off the surface of the table. Should drop a few degrees at idle and load. The stock feet are really thin and the laptop is just suffocating with the amount of cool air it has access to down there. I used Gatorade bottle caps under the feet and that actually worked better than the cooling pad I have since it raises the laptop up higher.

I have feet set on my stand to prop the machine up. Let those fans breathe

even with the pascal undervolt im still hitting 90C in BF1 and my 8700K is hitting 100C

Honestly, even at stock my 8700k wasn't even close of 100 so there's obviously something wrong with the heatsink, maybe even the fan.Maleko48 likes this. -

Seconded. Focus on the paste, but if anything seems loose or like it's not making contact that might be the issue. Its not a temp other machines are hitting as far as I can recall.Maleko48 likes this. -

My system is for HIDevolution, and i choose the best cooling option. So my 8700k is delidded with liquid metal and my 1080 is using Geild. I think it must be because im using adaptive voltage it's giving it too much voltages.

But still, even with adaptive voltage, my 8700k with grizzly aeronaut never broke the 85 mark.
Since they also use the latest Prema bios, I would also rule that out.
Maybe a faulty sensor? 90 on a 1080 with no undervolt curve I could understand, but 100 on a delidded 8700k at stock, it doesn't seems right.
I'm still a newbie here but I'll try summoning @Donald@HIDevolution to come to your aid. -

I'm tempted to try override voltage to 1.25v maybe that will work. Now im trying to undervolt the 1080 even more lowering clocks and voltage. 1848 at 0.900v im still getting 88 in fire strike ultra stress test.
-
You can try that, either in bios or with throttlestop, you could follow the throttlestop guide here to have it start with windows.
1.25v seems like a great starting point, but imo you could go for something like 1.2 or even 1.8 -
I think i have to settle for 1823/10516 at 0.900v 86C. This is with 20 loops runs of fire strike ultra stress test. Time to test BF1
-
Now what about the CPU? Did you change adaptive to override/static? -
So far in BF1 the GPU is 83C 1835/10516 0.900v stable. CPU is still going crazy 99C. I haven't tried override yet on the cpu.
-
If HID didn't mess the job, which I doubt because I've only seen flawless reviews here, maybe there's something wrong with the fan.
I remember when I received my alienware 15 R3, the CPU temps would jump all over the place because the CPU fan was faulty.
But no matter what it is, I would suggest contacting them directly, they could probably setup a teamviewer session with you, run some tests and see what's happening.Maleko48 likes this. -

I'd call them and have a chat about it, they can guide you through what you should be seeing.
